Locally raised chicken available in County
Bread of Life Natural Food Store in Presque Isle has begun taking orders for locally raised chicken. The chicken is raised, processed and packaged by Sunnyside Farm, a Maine Department of Agriculture licensed poultry farm and slaughter facility near Houlton.
The farm is run by owners Joseph and Clare Desrosiers and their six children, ages 7 months to nine years. In 2010, it was named Outstanding Conservationist by the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District. Since 2008, the Desrosiers family has raised and processed all natural, antibiotic free chickens.
Frozen chicken, packaged in vacuum sealed bags, is available year round in all cuts – from boneless skinless breast to wings and whole birds. Sunnyside Farm has sold its chicken to both wholesale and retail outlets throughout Central and Southern Maine and, through the help of Bread of Life Bulk Foods, is now making its chicken available to individuals living in Central Aroostook. Customers can go into Bread of Life and place an order for chicken. Customers can then pick up their order on the specified delivery date (which will be twice per month).
