Halfway Home Pet Rescue is always, always in need of bleach and Purina Kitten Chow for our in-house and foster rescued cats.
HHPR is always, always in need of donations made to the Presque Isle Animal Hospital, PO Box 352, Presque Isle, ME 04736 toward our medical costs each month. Even $5 is a help as it pays for a capstar (immediate flea) treatment. Because we are the very last hope for help, even with our generous shelter medical discounts, our medical expenses run very high because of surgeries and/or extreme illness of some of these cats. If the diagnosis is favorable for a recovery of good and a happy life, our mission is to give each animal that chance they have never had before. We normally spend between $1500 to $2500 each month in medical care — higher in the months we work with hoarder situations as they generally come to us in deplorable condition with lots of long-term care needed before they are ready for adoption. We have worked with five hoarder situations in 2011.
Our special wish for Santa which we can never, ever afford to splurge on is the cotton padded cubed beds you can buy in Walmart for about $15. When one of those is donated, it is hard to choose which cat will get it as they all love them and it becomes such a security to them that we generally let the bed go to the new home with the cat. They love to crawl in that comfy padded bed and just watch what is going on with the other cats. It is a real luxury, a true comfort and at this point we have none.
Our free Marie Joyce Allen Memorial Pet Food Pantry is always in need of adult dry cat food. The 3-pound bags of any brand is our favorite choice to give out. Paradis Shop & Save in Caribou has a shopping cart available in the front of the store for you to place your food donations, or donations can be dropped off at 11 Pioneer Ave in Caribou. The free pet pet pantry can always use worming products for both cats or dogs.
