Big test this week for the ‘Cats
It was a slow week in schoolboy basketball with teams taking a few days off for the Christmas holiday.
Four teams in the region, Central Aroostook, Washburn Easton and Presque Isle remain undefeated, but the Wildcats will have a challenging week when on Thursday when they travel to Ellsworth to take on the Eagles and Friday in Bar Harbor to play MDI.
Here’s a recap of some of the games played through Monday, Dec. 26:

Easton 58, GHCA 42 — The Bears upped their record to 5-0 with a 58-42 win over Greater Houlton Christian Academy on Monday
Caribou 60, Old Town 48 — The Caribou Vikings picked up their second win of the season with a home victory over Old Town, 60-48, on Friday night.
Chad Caverhill scored 18 points to lead a balanced attack as the Vikings improved their record to 2-2. Danye Savage added 12 points for Caribou, Cody Herbert had 11 and Derrick Richardson chipped in with 10 points.
For 0-5 Old Town, Garrett Libby had a game-high 19 points
Fort Fairfield 47, Katahdin 45 — At Fort Fairfield Friday, Dereck Dufour sank a pair of free throws with 3.9 seconds left to break a tie, cap a 24-point performance and lead Fort Fairfield to its first win of the season after four losses.
Andrew Lewis had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Brandon Clark contributed six points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Wyatt Morse and Braden Cunningham had 12 points apiece for 1-2 Katahdin of Stacyville.
Presque Isle 50, John Bapst 38 — The Presque Isle Wildcats remain unbeaten on the season after taking down the John Bapst Crusaders 50-38 at Husson University on Friday.
Senior Wilder York proved to be the spark the Wildcats needed scoring 13 points in the final 10 minutes to help Presque Isle down the Crusaders. He totaled 16 for the game.
Tyler Brooks, a 6-5 junior forward, added game-high totals of 20 points and 15 rebounds as Presque Isle improved its record to 4-0
Washburn 108, Wisdom 21 — The high-powered offense that is the Washburn Beavers was at it again Thursday night at home. Washburn topped the century mark beating Wisdom, 108-28.
Mitch Worcester lead the Beavers with 28 points, followed closely by Jordan McLaughlin with 27. Nick Bragg added 12 points for 3-0 Washburn and Kenny Irving contributed nine more.
Chris Ouellette led the 0-3 Pioneers with six points and 13 rebounds.
Madawaska 68, Limestone/MSSM 60 — At Madawaska Thursday, Matt Deschenes netted 26 points to lead the Owls by the Eagles.
Brandon Thompson scored a game-high 28 points for the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics, now 3-2. Chris Paradis added 15 points.
Fort Kent 47, Caribou 39 — In Caribou on Wednesday, the Fort Kent Warriors upped their record to 4-0 with a, 47-39, win over the Vikings.
Fort Kent outscored Caribou 13-5 in the fourth quarter after being tied at 34 after three quarters.
For 1-2 Caribou, Cody Herbert scored 18, and Dayne Savage added nine.
Thomas Enerva scored 21 points to pace the Warriors.
Van Buren 65, Limestone/MSSM 43 — On Dec. 20, Eric LaPlante scored a game-high 19 points and Caleb Roy tossed in 18 more to pace visiting Van Buren to a win over Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.
Marc Lajoie scored 12 points for the 1-3 winners, Jordan Banks had eight, Connor Lapierre scored six and Dylan Taylor had two.
Chris Paradis had 15 points for 3-2 Limestone. Bret Butler, Brandon Thompson and Chris Bernier had six each and Cody Bryant and Nate Tucker had five apiece.
