American Flag ColorMAPLETON – Melvin A. “Nick” Nicknair, 77, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born in Winterville on August 19, 1934, the son of Frank and Alice (Deprey) Nicknair.

    Melvin served in the U.S. Navy 1954-1959. He worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years.

    He is survived by two brothers, Richard Nicknair and his wife, Hilda of Augusta, and Daniel Nicknair and his wife, Judy of Houlton; three sisters, Barbara Shinn and her husband, Charles of Puyallup, Washington, Dorothy “Dotty” Nicknair of Mapleton, and Theresa Slocomb and her husband, David of Augusta; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Virginia; and a brother, Ralph.

    A private graveside service will be held at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle, in the spring of 2012. Arrangements have been entrusted to Duncan-Graves Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at duncan-graves.com.
