Central Aroostook picks up big win over Easton,

record at 5-0

    Hancock County didn’t treat either the Caribou or Presque Isle boys’ basketball teams very well over the past week and Central Aroostook came up with a point-worthy win over Easton.

    Here’s a recap of games played through Monday, Jan 2:

    Ashland 54, East Grand 15 — At Ashland Monday, Tyler Levesque recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds to power Ashland by East Grand.

    Tyler Chasse chipped in with 10 points for 2-5 Ashland.

    Kenneth Winiarski scored five points to lead 0-6 East Grand.

    Fort Kent 66, Limestone/MSSM 43 — The Fort Kent Warriors remained undefeated with a win on Monday over LCS/MSSM.

    At Limestone, Curtis Bouchard nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead the Warriors to the win.

    Nate Tucker paced 4-4 Limestone with 11 points and Brandon Thompson added 10.

    Easton 79, Wisdom 28 — The Easton Bears traveled to St. Agatha on Monday and scored a lopsided win over the Pioneers, 79-28.

    Easton is now 7-1 on the season.

    Limestone/MSSM 51, Wisdom 38 — At Limestone Friday, Brandon Thompson led the way with 14 points as the Eagles collected a 13-point win over the Pioneers.

    Bret Butler scored nine points for Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics. Tristan Kirk and Cody Bryant chipped in seven points each.

    Nathan Boynton paced Wisdom of St. Agatha with 15 points and Jake Lizotte posted 10.

    Easton 48, Van Buren 43 — At Easton Friday, the Bears used 13 points from Jared Hafford and 10 from Cody Thompkins en route to their sixth win in seven games.

    It was their fourth game in eight days and the stretch began with a 62-52 win over Van Buren in Van Buren.

    Eric Laplante’s 15 points, Jordan Banks’ 12 and Marc Lajoie’s 11 points paced 1-5 Van Buren.

    MDI 55, Presque Isle 39 — For the second straight day the Presque Wildcats matched up with an undefeated Hancock County team and the results were the same, a loss for Presque Isle.

    In Bar Harbor Friday, Jayson Burke scored 18 points as the Mount Desert Island Trojans remained undefeated.

    Matt Eager led 5-2 Presque Isle with 19 points, while Andrew Kofstad added nine.

    Ellsworth 51, Caribou 42 — At Ellsworth Friday, the Caribou Vikings fell to the undefeated Eagles, 51-42.

    Thomas Sawyer registered 13 points and nine rebounds for 7-0 Ellsworth.

    Dayne Savage led Caribou (3-4) with 15 points and Cody Herbert chipped in with seven.

    Fort Kent 63, Washburn 57 — The Washburn Beavers dropped their first game of the season on Thursday, bowing to Fort Kent, 63-57.

    Curtis Bouchard scored a big 38 points to lead the 6-0 winners and Thomas Enerva added 10 points and ripped down 22 rebounds.

    The Beavers (4-1) were led by Mitch Worcester with 24 points. Jordan McLaughlin added 12 points and Chase Chandler contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds.

    Ellsworth 69, Presque Isle 50 — The Presque Isle Wildcats fell from the ranks of the undefeated on Thursday, as the host Ellsworth Eagles rode the hot hand of Nick Holt to the win.

    The senior guard shot five-for-five from beyond the three-point arc en route to 19 points before intermission.

    The Eagles had an 18-point lead at the half.

    Presque Isle did manage to close the gap in the third quarter, but could never get it closer than a  13-point deficit.

    Junior forward Tyler Brooks led Presque Isle with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Matt Eager scored 10 points, Cole Richards had nine points and Wilder York dished out seven assists.

    Ellsworth is now 6-0, while Presque Isle dips to 5-1.

    MDI 58, Caribou 28 — In Bar Harbor Thursday, the Caribou Vikings ran into an undefeated MDI team that put on a defensive show, holding the visitors to 28 points.

    MDI’s record stands at 6-0. Caribou falls to 3-3.

    Central Aroostook 69, Easton 54 — Missed opportunities, mainly missed free throws, will be how the host Bears will remember their first matchup with Central Aroostook on Wednesday.

    The Panthers remained undefeated following a 69-54 win over the Bears.

    The game was close in the first half despite Easton missing 13 free throws. For the game Easton was just 5-24 from the charity stripe.

    Coming out of halftime Central Aroostook upped their intensity and pushed the lead to 20 points. Easton did manage to come back a little but Brendan York exploded for 14 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Panthers. York scored a game-high 19.

    Mike McClung contributed 16 points for Central Aroostook.

    Jared Hafford led the Bears with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Holden Turner chipped in with 13 points.

    Wisdom 55, Ashland 47 — In St. Agatha on Wednesday, the Pioneers came away with a home win over the Hornets for their first win of the season.

    Ashland falls to 1-5. Wisdom is now 1-3.

    Caribou 60, Washington Academy 56 — For the second straight game the Caribou Vikings tallied 60 points and collected a win.

    At home on Dec. 27, Derick Richardson scored a game-high 18 points to pace 3-2 Caribou over the Raiders. Dayne Savage and Matt Milliard both scored 13 points, and Chad Caverhill added eight.

    Washington Academy falls to 2-3.

    Fort Kent 71, Fort Fairfield 67 — At Fort Kent on Dec. 27, Curtis Bouchard led all scorers with 30 points to power the Warriors to their fifth win without a loss.

    Fort Fairfield (1-5) was led by Brandon Clark with 20 points. Andrew Lewis and Dereck Dufour tossed in 16 points each.

    Washburn 81, Southern Aroostook 47 — At Dyer Brook on Dec. 27, the Beavers (4-0) remained undefeated behind a balanced scoring attack, defeating the Warriors.

    Mitch Worcester led the way with 32 points and 11 rebounds and Jordan McLaughlin poured in 19 points to go with six steals for Washburn. Nick Bragg had 11 points, Mason Turner tallied nine points and 11 boards, and Chase Chandler dumped in nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.

    The Warriors (2-3) were led by Jesse Boulier with 15 points, Kaleb Burpee with 12 and Cody Lassande with 11.

    Presque Isle 62, Foxcroft Academy 36 — At Presque Isle on Dec. 27, the game couldn’t have started any better for the Wildcats as they ran a play off the tip which led to a Matt Eager dunk.

    The Wildcats quickly extended the lead to more than 10 points, and controlled the entire game.

    PIHS upped their record to 5-0.
