OAKFIELD — Merle and Evelyn (Clewley) Burpee of Oakfield, were guests of honor at a 70th anniversary party put on for them by their children at the Oakfield Sno-Rovers Club on Dec. 17, 2011. Many family and friends gathered for this momentous occasion. Robert Locke of Oakfield sang a few songs for the couple as well as the family and friends that were in attendance.
Merle and Evelyn were married on Dec. 13, 1941, in Island Falls, Maine. They had four children, Sandra (Burpee) Holmes, Merlin, David, Charles and a very special nephew Roger Pelkey. They have nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
