C-ME-SKI Race
The 24th annual C-ME-SKI Race will be taking place on Saturday, Feb. 11 (weather permitting) at the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge at the Loring Commerce Centre.
Registration is at noon and race time for youths is 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. for adults.
Youngsters up to age 13 will ski a half- to two-kilometer course; 13- to 18-year-olds will ski seven kilometers; and adults have a 21K course.
The price is free for youths and a five dollar donation is requested of adults.
The event is sponsored by the Limestone Ski Club and The Friends of the Aroostook Wildlife Refuge.
Aroostook Cup
MADAWASKA — Sunday marked the kick-off to the 2012 Aroostook Cup Ski Carnival series with the Deprey Classic at the Four Seasons Lodge in Madawaska.
Despite single-digit temperatures, almost 20 skiers braved the frigid conditions to complete the 6-kilometer freestyle course.
Lauren Jacobs, skiing for the Nordic Heritage Sport Club, won the overall race with a time of 19:32. Marco Boucher, racing for Four Seasons, came in second with a time of 20:06. Sherri Dubois and Patricia Hebert, both skiing for 10th Mountain, came in second and third for the women, respectively. Mike Smith of Nordic Heritage was second in the men’s field.
Four Seasons took the early lead in the club standings with 13 points. 10th Mountain is second with 10 points and Nordic Heritage is third with seven points.
The Aroostook Cup series continues on Jan. 29 with the Frostbite 40km at the 10th Mountain Center in Fort Kent. The event will also feature at 5km and 20 km option.
Madawaska100
With only a little over a month remaining and some snow on the ground, anticipation is growing for the Madawaska Snowmobile Club’s second annual USCC Madawaska100 Cross-Country Snowmobile Race scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18.
