UMPI hoop teams win two against UMA
PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle basketball teams found the winning touch in two home games against the University of Maine at Augusta on Saturday.
The Lady Owls erase a nine-point halftime deficit and went on to a 63-54 win over the Moose.
The victory for Presque Isle avenges the loss they suffered to UMA in December when Augusta (9-6) pulled out a 67-58 win on their home court.
Four Owls’ reached double figures, led by Washburn’s Rashell Sauciers’s 14 points, in a very balanced scoring attack.
UMPI improved to 5-9.
In the men’s game, UMPI’s Patrick Manifold went 11 for 15 from the floor on Sunday afternoon against the University of Maine-Augusta en route to a 30-point, 11-rebound performance in the Owls’ 78-44 win over the Moose.
The win for Presque Isle (3-9) avenges a loss at the hands of UMA, 67-52, earlier this season and snaps the team’s 8-game losing streak. UMA falls to 6-12.
Manifold got plenty of help in the scoring column. Brad Trask of Easton and Kyle Corrigan of Caribou finished with 12 points apiece, while Aaron Hutchins added 10.
