The high school basketball season is more than half way complete with only three and a half weeks left before the playoffs.

There are some big games in schoolboy basketball this week. Presque Isle gets a crack at avenging an early season loss when Ellsworth visits the Wildcats on Friday at 7 p.m. Also on Friday Washburn travels to Easton to take on the Bears. Washburn is currently No. 4 in Eastern Maine Class D, while Washburn is No. 5.
Here’s a recap of the games played through Monday, Jan. 16:
Presque Isle 75, Old Town 61 — The Presque Isle Wildcats upped their record to 8-3 on Monday with a home win over the Old Town Coyotes.
The Wildcats had five players in double-digits led by Andrew Kofstad with 19, including three three-pointers. Jonah Stephenson had 16 points off the bench and played very well according to coach Terry Cummings. Matt Eager had 14 points, Tyler Brooks 12 and Cole Richards chipped in with 11.
Presque Isle is currently in ninth place in Eastern Maine Class B.
Katahdin 65, Fort Fairfield 57 — At Stacyville Monday, Katahdin avenged an early-season loss to Fort Fairfield as Colton Bivighouse powered the Cougars attack with 31 points and 14 rebounds.
Fort Fairfield, now 3-8, was led by Andrew Lewis with 23 points and Austin Bernier with 11 points.
Caribou 47, John Bapst 36 — The Vikings outscored John Bapst, 22-10, in the fourth quarter to pull out a 47-36 victory in Caribou Monday.
Dayne Savage scored a game-high 19 points for 6-6 Caribou, with Cody Herbert adding nine and Breen Blackstone contributing eight.
For 2-10 John Bapst, Peter Pfister scored 12 points.
Central Aroostook 83, Madawaska 50 — At Madawaska Monday, Mike McClung scored 22 points as Central Aroostook remained unbeaten.
Brendan York added 16 points for the 11-0 Panthers, while Dan Brewer scored 15 points and Chandler Brewer contributed 10.
Matt Deschenes made five 3-pointers and scored 22 points for 4-7 Madawaska.
Easton 82, East Grand 12 — The Easton Bears upped their record to 10-2 on Monday with a home win over East Grand.
Garrett Gray paced the way for Easton with 21 points. Reid Clark chipped in with 20 and Jonah Bacon added 12.
The Bears face a tough test this Friday at home when Washburn is the competition. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Foxcroft Academy 57, Caribou 52 — Saturday the Caribou Vikings hit the road to take on Foxcroft Academy and came up just short, 57-52.
Dayne Savage paced the Vikings (5-6) with 18 points and Chad Caverhill added 12.
Kaleb Smith and Ryan Rebar each scored 18 points to help the Ponies improve to 4-6.
Washburn 92, Van Buren 35 — The high-scoring Washburn Beavers were back at it on Friday night in Van Buren. The Beavers topped the Crusaders, 92-35, for their eighth win against one loss.
Mitch Worcester led Washburn with 24 points. Jordan McLaughlin added 20 points and Nick Bragg scored 12.
Marc Lajoie paced Van Buren with 16 points.
Central Aroostook 61, Ashland 35 — At Ashland Friday, Chandler Brewer headed a balanced offense with 13 points as the Panthers downed the Hornets.
Daniel Brewer scored 12 points and Mike McClung posted 11 for 9-0 Central Aroostook.
Tyler Levesque led Ashland (2-7) with 14 points.
Limestone/MSSM 63, Wisdom 38 — At St. Agatha Thursday, the Limestone/MSSM Eagles improved their record to 5-6 with a 15-point win over the Pioneers.
Wisdom falls to 2-8.
Washburn 93, Fort Kent 51 — The Washburn Beavers traveled to the St. John Valley on Wednesday night an avenged their only loss of the season, downing Fort Kent, 93-51.
Junior guard Mitch Worcester led all scorers with 34 points for Washburn. Chase Chandler added 14 points and Jordan McLaughlin scored 13 for 7-1 Washburn.
Curtis Bouchard scored 24 points for 7-3 Fort Kent.
Central Aroostook 66, Easton 36 — For the second time this month the Central Aroostook Panthers have beaten the Easton Bears, this time at home on Jan. 10.
Mike McClung paced the 9-0 winners with 19 points and Brendan York added 18. Joe Stiles chipped in with 11 points and Dan Brewer netted 10.
Reid Clark scored 10 points to lead 9-2 Easton and Cody Tompkins put in seven.
Fort Fairfield 64, Limestone/MSSM 54 — At Fort Fairfield Jan. 10, Andrew Lewis scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to power the Tigers to victory.
Dereck Dufour added 19 points and Brandon Clark netted 10 with nine rebounds for Fort Fairfield.
Brandon Thompson led a balanced effort for Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics with 14 points. Chris Paradis and Nate Tucker tossed in 13 and 12 points, respectively.
