Dog sledding event at UMPI set for Feb. 1 at noon
PRESQUE ISLE — In celebration of winter fun, families are invited to come to the University of Maine at Presque Isle and experience the thrill of a short dog sled ride. Heywood Kennel Sled Dog Adventures from Stockholm will have two sets of friendly working huskies and sleds guided by registered Maine guides on campus Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 12 to 5 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to try out this exciting adventure. Children and adults are welcome and two people can go in one sled. The cost is only $2 per person per ride and you can take as many rides as you want.
Directions from Main Street in Presque Isle: take the UMPI loop road and park in the tennis courts parking lot. The dogs will be following a trail circling UMPI’s soccer field.
Dog sledding is only one of many events UMPI is sponsoring during a two-day celebration of the fifth annual Frozen Frenzy. Other activities for students include snowshoeing, tubing, snow soccer goal shots, skiing/snowboarding at Big Rock, snow scavenger adventure and other challenges, with a finale of prizes and s’mores around a campfire.
