The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, at 6:30 at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Theresa Fowler, executive director of the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce.

Formerly the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce, the board decided to change the name to better reflect the area they cover. There are 13 communities involved in the Chamber: Ashland, Blaine, Castle Hill, Chapman, Easton, Mapleton, Mars Hill, Masardis, Portage Lake, Presque Isle, Oxbow, Washburn and Westfield.

The purpose of the Chamber is to make central Aroostook better known. There is a website that receives thousands of hits each month. Check it out for yourself at www.centralaroostookchamber.com. They also receive numerous calls and e-mails asking for all types of information about the area.

Area residents can help the Chamber by informing them about small businesses in local towns that might not be very well-known. The organization also keeps lists of people that rent rooms, do snow plowing, clean off roofs, etc. The phone number is 764-6561.

Small business (three employees or less) can join the Chamber for $140 per year. This gives the business access to health insurance and bulk mailing as well as co-operative advertising in various publications.
