Mapleton Cub Scout Pack 170 held its annual Pinewood Derby Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Mapleton Lions Hall. Twenty-two Cub Scouts ranging from grades 1-5 competed with cars they created themselves, as well as seven siblings of the Scouts who also participated. Parents, grandparents, family, friends and community members all came together to support the Scouts and cheer them on.

THE TOP FOUR FINISHERS lo mapleton c3x sh 07 in the recent Pinewood Derby for Mapleton Cub Scout Pack 170 are, from left: Mark Curtis (fourth place), Austin Pictou (third place), Holden Stoutamyer (second place) and Tyler Farnum (first place). Congratulations and good luck at the mall.

Each Scout had the opportunity to race their car down the four-lane track in eight different heats throughout the afternoon. The boys had a wonderful time watching the car they built (with a little help) race for the checkered flag. In the end, all the boys earned a trophy that represented their car. Most Tricked-out Car, Brightest Paint Job or Best Designed Car are just a sampling of the prizes awarded.

The top four finishers have the privilege of taking their cars to the Aroostook Centre Mall for the Katahdin Area Council, North Star District Scout Show to race all other area Cub Scout Packs for top honors.

The top four finishers for Mapleton Pack 170 are Mark Curtis (fourth place), Austin Pictou (third place), Holden Stoutamyer (second place) and Tyler Farnum (first place). Congratulations to these top four and best of luck as you move to the mall competition.

The Scouts and their families would like to thank all the den leaders, set-up volunteers, concession stand workers and their parents, since without them, this fantastic day would not have been possible. Last, but not least, they would like to thank Eric Warren, pack leader, who works tirelessly to keep Scouting in the lives of our boys.
