The Limestone Community School/ MSSM girls’ basketball team has come a long way since a 2-16 season in 2010-11. This year the Eagles posted a 9-9 record, which was good for 10th place in Eastern Maine Class D and a spot in the preliminary round of the playoffs.
Seniors Amanada Allen and Stephanie Leighton are called on for points, as well as junior Danielle Pelkey and sophomore Melissa Cantafio.
The prelim game was played last night in Hodgdon No. 7. The two teams split on the regular season.
Before the season coach Robert Hancock outlined his keys to the season.
“To pride ourselves in playing tough defense and above all play hard,” he said.
The winner of the Hodgdon and LCS/MSSM game will face the winner Fort Fairfield No. 2 and Southern Aroostook No. 15 in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
The LCS/MSSM boys finished the regular season at 7-11, just missing a playoff spot in the Heal Point standings by less than a point and half. Fort Fairfield grabbed the final prelim spot. Limestone and Fort Fairfield split on the season.
