Local mushers win Milo races

MILO — Two young mushers from Stockholm recently recorded wins at the Maine Highland Sled Dog Club’s third annual sprint race.

Josh and Carter Quist won races in their respective age divisions.

Nine-year-old Carter ran the two dog, one mile course, while 11-year-old Josh participated in the four dog, four mile challenge.

The brothers represented Heywood Kennel Sled Dog Adventures of Stockholm, where they help out with kennel chores and train the dogs.

The Maine Highlands Sled Dog Club was formed for recreational and novice mushers. The club promotes dog-powered sports and the humane care of animals.

Heywood Kennel, owned by Kevin Quist and Lindy Howe, offers sled dog tours, rides and educational packages using registered Maine Guides and Alaskan Huskies.
