The Caribou City Council voted Tuesday evening to approve a proposed amendment to the Land Use Tables for the RC-2 District allowing agricultural product storage buildings to be constructed following a site design and review. Prior to the vote a public hearing was declared open for comment and/or concerns, with no interested parties in attendance.
According to Steve Wentworth, adviser to the Caribou Planning Board, a public hearing was held on Jan. 5, to receive public comment on the city council recommended change to the Land Use Table that will allow agricultural product storage buildings in the RC-2 zone with site design review and approval by the planning board.
As there were no interested parties in attendance to speak either in favor of or against the amendment during the Jan. 5 public hearing, the planning board voted unanimously in favor of the amendment.
As with previous discussions regarding the possible level of noise with this type of structure, Councilman Jon Boone asked Wentworth if he was aware of any problems or concerns residents in that area may have voiced.
Wentworth said there was a noise limitation factor that is included in the ordinance that sets noise decibel limits and that the city now has an instrument that measures noise levels, which will be used this spring when the storage building ventilation fans are again in use.
