Aroostook County Republicans
to host Senate candidates forum
PRESQUE ISLE — The Maine Republican Party and GOPforME have scheduled a series of public forums in April and May featuring the party’s six U.S. Senate candidates. The first GOPforME forum will be held in Presque Isle, Thursday, April 5 at 6 p.m. at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center.
“The Republican Party is planning nine GOPforME forums around the state to give people a chance to hear the candidates. Admission is free and open to the public,” said Hayes Gahagan, chair of the Aroostook County Republican Committee.
Senate candidates running in the June 12 primary are former State Sen. Rick Bennett, small businessman Scott D’Amboise, State Sen. Debra Plowman, State Treasurer Bruce Poliquin, Attorney General William Schneider and Secretary of State Charlie Summers.
Four candidates are running in the Democratic primary. Former Maine Gov. Angus King is among the independents who have said they’re running.
“From the Saint John Valley to Island Falls, Aroostook County Republicans have been generating a lot of activity and enthusiasm this campaign cycle. There’s a grassroots move to elect candidates who will control spending and taxation and preserve our individual liberty,” said Gahagan. “We’re expecting a good turnout at the April 5 GOPforME event.”
