EASTON — Investigators have yet to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on the Fuller Road Saturday afternoon.
“We were notified of the fire around 4 p.m. March 24. The home, originally built by former Town Manager Duncan Beaton at 305 Fuller Road, was currently owned by David Salkind,” said Easton Fire Chief Kim White.
White said none of the Salkind family were home when the fire started.
“Mr. Salkind returned from attending a function in Presque Isle and discovered the fire and reported it,” said White.
White said strong winds made it difficult for firefighters trying to extinguish the blaze.
“It was a fast-moving fire. The wind really hampered our efforts,” said the chief.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The home, which was insured, was considered a total loss.
White said the Fire Marshal’s Office was notified and the incident is under investigation.
“No cause has been determined. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating but officials were quite busy over the weekend — with this fire and the major fire in Fort Kent,” said White.
Crews from three communities were on scene, according to White, for about six hours. Easton Fire Department responded with 25 firefighters, with Mars Hill sending a tanker and crew, and Presque Isle sending a tanker, pumper and crew.
