    Hunter Safety Course offered
    SAD 29/70 will hold an adult education hunter safety course in May.
    The course meets the mandatory Maine licensing requirement for first-time hunters and is recommended for all Maine hunters.
    Instructor Maurice Brewer will instruct two sessions, with the first being on Tuesday, May 1 at Houlton High School from 6-8:30 p.m. and the second, Saturday, May 12 at the high school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Attendance is mandatory at both sessions. Cost is $3.
    To register, call the Adult Education office at 521-3100, extension 5.
    Students must be 10 years old to take a Hunter Safety Course. Students between the ages of 10-12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian, who is 18 years old or older. Testing assistance is available.
Houlton Men’s Softball League forming
    The Houlton Men’s Softball League is tentatively scheduled to begin play on Monday, June 4. An informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 18 at the Millar Civic Center for captains or anyone who wants to help or has ideas for the league are encouraged to attend.
    For those not affiliated with a team but still want to play, be a captain or help with the Houlton Men’s Softball League is asked to call Steve Moran at 538-9517; e-mail smoran5533s@aol.com or visit the Houlton Softball Association via Facebook.
    Moran will be attempting to add more teams to the league this year.
Soap Box Derby sign-up
    The Northern Maine Soap Derby Committee is inviting all 8-16 year olds to Maine’s only Soap Box Derby Race on Saturday, June 23 at Derby Hill in Houlton Community Park.
    The NMSBD committee will help participants find a car if needed or check out the www.AASBD.org  website and get sponsors for a car.
    To register, stop by the Houlton Recreation Department to pick up a form or e-mail the committee at rec.programs@houlton-maine.com. The race cost $30, but the experience of the “Thrill of the Hill” is priceless! Registration deadline is May 1.
