Community pride in Smyrna, Merrill

To the editor:
The Selectmen and I send a huge thank you to the wonderful citizens of Smyrna and Merrill who worked a recent weekend picking litter from the sides of the roads to make our community a better place to live, work and play. In addition, the Selectmen and I offer a huge thank you to the crew that showed up at the Merrill Millstream Park to work at the Park.
Volunteers accomplished a great deal of work at the MMP, raking, cutting trees to make way for the parking lot, staining the bandstand, picking rocks, and taking down the Christmas decorations!
The Selectmen and I think we have the most civic-minded group of citizens living in our community, because not once, but several times a year a large group of citizens turn out to work at the Merrill Millstream Park, the Smyrna Merrill Historical Society or to pick litter from the roadsides. Each spring we like to put flags up along our roadsides to show honor and respect for our Veterans and those who are serving our country and we like the town to look nice when Old Glory is displayed on the poles along the roads.
Again, to everyone who helped and to all of you who keep a section of road looking clean all year — thank you!
Candy Nevers,
Town Manager
