The month of April brings showers (rain or snow) and thoughts of warmer weather while the month of May brings parades, dandelions, Mother’s Day and — the Caribou Choral Society’s spring concerts.
At 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, at the Holy Rosary Church in Caribou, members of the Choral Society will present their spring concert, “Look to the Day.” The concert will also be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, at St. Mary’s Church in Presque Isle.
According to Dan Ladner, director of the group, this concert will include a new vocal selection, “Look to the Day,” composed by John Rutter. Some of the other songs which will be performed include “Rock-A-My-Soul”; “It Might As Well Be Spring”; “Send in the Clowns”; “Kyrie” from Schubert’s ‘Mass in G’; Irving Berlin’s “I Love a Piano”; “Goin’ Home” from the New World Symphony; and “What a Wonderful World.”
Several soloists will be featured throughout the concerts, including two young men who are fourth-grade students from Fort Fairfield — Ethan Cassidy and Colby Giberson, who will join Jayne Shaw in singing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu.”
Do not miss your chance to welcome spring back to Aroostook County. Forget about those dark winter afternoons, the days are longer now; the sun higher in the sky and before long flowers will be casting brilliant colors in the gardens. It’s time to open your windows, breathe deeply and listen to the chatter and songs of the birds — and it’s time to listen to the sounds of Spring — those presented by the combined talented voices of the Caribou Choral Society.
There is no admission charge for these concerts, however goodwill offerings are greatly appreciated, helping to defray the cost of the group’s sheet music.
