Lombard named TAMC board chair

PRESQUE ISLE — Prominent central Aroostook County businesswoman Lynn Lombard has been named chair of the Board of Trustees of The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC). The Caribou resident, who serves as vice-president/director of human resources of Presque Isle-headquartered MMG Insurance, recently assumed the leadership role for the not-for-profit organization that serves as the leading provider of health care services in northern Maine.

“Lynn Lombard BU-TAMCLombard-clr-cx-sharpt-15 is an exceptional leader who is well-known as an outstanding member of the management team for one of our region’s premier organizations, as well as for her engagement in the Aroostook County community,” said TAMC President and CEO Sylvia Getman. “We are fortunate to have a businesswoman of her caliber leading our Board of Trustees through a period of transformational change in health care.”

Lombard has been with MMG Insurance since 1971. She has held various positions including assistant underwriter, staff underwriter, underwriting supervisor and underwriting manager. She was made an officer of the company in 1984, and became a vice-president in 1987. Since 1991, she has served as director of human resources.

Lombard was appointed to the TAMC Board of Trustees in 2005. She served as vice chair of the board in 2010-11. In assuming her new role, she addressed her fellow trustees on the challenges and opportunities presented by the coming reforms in health care.

“We are preparing for unprecedented change in health care delivery. Market dynamics will cause community health system re-design, and redirection of mission and related health system strategies, assets and human resource applications. Health reform regulation will likely create yet-unknown, and perhaps, unaffordable burdens on the private community health care provider systems,” said Lombard. “We will need to figure out what the likely effects will be on us and how we’ll need to respond. In that, we’ll need to figure out how we must change to best ensure the sustainability of our mission responsibilities and accountabilities in the future.”

Lombard’s community and civic involvement has benefited many local and regional organizations. She has served as a past president and member of the board of directors for the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Aroostook and Northeast Society for Human Resources Management. In addition, she has served as a board member of the Aroostook Regional Transportation System (ARTS), Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) and the Maine Network for Health.

TAMC has an active medical staff consisting of over 60 physicians and other health care practitioners, plus additional consulting and courtesy staff. The organization employs over 1,000 people and has facilities in five Aroostook County communities: Presque Isle, Mars Hill, Fort Fairfield, Caribou and Ashland.

TAMC is an affiliate of Eastern Maine Healthcare System (EMHS). The affiliation with EMHS allows for a wider range of healthcare services not typically available in rural communities.
