Lions Club supper, auction is Saturday

MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

This Saturday, May 5, the 50th annual Mapleton Lions Club auction will be held at 6 p.m. at the Mapleton Lions Hall. There are hundreds of donated items and services that will be auctioned that evening including a $250 gift certificate from Estey Water Wells and a $175 gift certificate for gravel from Kinney’s Construction.

This annual event is the major fundraiser for the charities supported by the Lions Club. Some of the Club’s charities include Project Graduation, Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp, Mapleton Boy and Cub Scouts and the Mapleton Recreation Department. Each year the club hangs the Christmas lights along Main Street and the club bears the expense of the electricity used keep the lights on. The auction helps with that expense, as well.

Everyone is invited to attend the auction which will follow a public ham and bean supper at the Mapleton Lions Hall. Dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. and the auction at 6 p.m. Tickets for the supper are $7 each and can be purchased at the door.

Auctioneers for the evening will be Lions Club members Matt Gregg and Ron Leonard.

HOLDEN STOUTAMYER, a Bear Cub Scout from Mapleton Pack 170, was the fourth-place finisher at the Katahdin Area Council’s 2012 Pinewood Derby that was held recently during the Scout Show at the Aroostook Centre Mall. Holden would like to thank his father, Adam Stoutamyer, for helping him build his car and being his den leader. Congratulations Holden.

Mapleton Daze update

Under the direction of the Mapleton Lions Club, plans for the annual Mapleton Daze weekend are well under way. Many of the traditional events that we have all come to know and love will be taking place again this year including the Friday night chicken barbeque and fireworks display. However, the club is looking for a volunteer or volunteers to organize the annual parade. If you are interested in organizing the parade, please contact Dennis Hoffses or any other Lions Club member immediately! Otherwise, the only parade in Mapleton this year will be the Memorial Day parade next month.

Please plan to attend a fundraiser spaghetti supper Saturday, May 26 at the Lion’s Hall. The Lion’s Club is planning the supper to help raise funds for the Mapleton Daze fireworks display. The club would appreciate the public’s support! Watch for more details in this column as the date approaches.
