Louise (Dickens) Lambert, 96, of Camden, died Friday, April 27, 2012 at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland. Born in Newport on April 13, 1916, she was the daughter of Willard Lee and Winifred (Rollins) Dickens and was salutatorian in the Class of 1934 at Camden High School. In 1938, Louise graduated from Boston Children’s Hospital receiving her registered nursing degree. She served in the European Theatre of the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in England. Following her discharge from the Army, she enrolled at Columbia University.
In 1949, Louise married Deane Allen Lambert in Camden. They lived in Houlton for many years where she worked as a public health nurse for the State of Maine. In Aroostook County, Louise was instrumental in developing vocational and rehabilitation programs for mentally handicapped clients as well as starting a health clinic in Danforth.
In 1992 following the death of her husband, Deane A. Lambert, Louise moved to Camden. She was a member of the Hope Extension, the Camden Senior Citizens, the Camden Rockport Historical Society, and the First Congregational Church of Camden.
Surviving are her nephews and nieces, William Anderson and his wife, Nancy; Debby Entwistle and her husband, Jerry, all of Camden; Molly Worthley and her husband, Bob of Strong; Laurie McLean and her husband, Christopher of Winterport; Susan Burgess and her husband, John of Newport; Thomas Dickens and his wife, Charlyn of Lincolnville; several great nephews and great nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Lucy Anderson and husband, Bob; and brother, Thomas Dickens and wife, Ann.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12 at 12 noon at the First Congregational Church, 55 Elm Street, Camden. Interment will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery in Camden at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Camden Rockport Historical Society, P.O.
