PRESQUE ISLE — A local man was charged Saturday, April 28, in connection with the meth bust made by Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents on Blake Street last week.

“Michael J. CarpineFS-MDEA Blake Carpine Arrest-clr-cx-sh-18 34, surrendered to MDEA agents Saturday afternoon at a Presque Isle motel. Carpine had most recently been in a Portland hospital being treated for severe burns to his hands and arms,” said Darrell Crandall, MDEA division commander.

Carpine’s injuries were reportedly the result of a meth lab fire, according to the MDEA.

Agents were on site at Carpine’s Blake Street apartment, collecting evidence.

“MDEA’s laboratory response team executed a search warrant at Carpine’s Blake Street residence on April 18 and collected a significant amount of evidence, including chemicals and equipment used to make methamphetamine and loaded handguns that were scattered in various locations throughout the apartment,” Crandall said.

Carpine is charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine. The offense is aggravated because of the firearms being used in furtherance of the drug crime.

“MDEA agents have been in communication with Carpine since the incident and made arrangements to meet him in Presque Isle April 28,” said Crandall.

Carpine posted bail and will make his initial appearance in Aroostook County Superior Court on July 19.
