The legislative sentiment was read into the Statehouse record back in March and May 4 lawmakers, Red Cross officials and bank employees gathered at the Presque Isle branch to mark the honor.

Representative Tyler Clark of Easton was one of the sponsors of the sentiment, which passed unanimously in both the House and Senate.

“I serve on the board for the Red Cross in Aroostook County and I have seen, time after time, when the Red Cross needed help Katahdin Trust Company has always stepped up to partner with us and provide help financially,” said Clark.

Over the past 12 years, Katahdin Trust and its customers have raised nearly $100,000 through the sale of thousands of stuffed animals, which benefits the Aroostook County Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Upon receiving the legislative sentiment, Katahdin Trust Company President and CEO Jon Prescott said, “In our role as a community bank, we are sensitive to the needs of people facing difficult circumstances. While we donate funds at the corporate level, I am particularly proud of the consistent efforts of our employees to raise additional funds through various means. I am proud of their collective sense of dedication and faithful support. When disasters impact the lives of our customers, friends and neighbors, it’s very satisfying to know that we have been able to significantly support a responsive organization that reaches out in time of need. We appreciate the American Red Cross and consider it a privilege to support its endeavors.”

Joyce Knorr, the Aroostook County branch manager for the American Red Cross, appreciates all that Katahdin Trust has done for the organization.

“We have to keep that cash flow coming in,” said Knorr. “When we have a corporate partner like Katahdin Trust it allows us to continue doing our job, because the fires don’t stop, the floods don’t stop and the storms don’t stop.”
