It has been six years since the Community Alcohol and Drug Education Team (CADET) hosted their successful town meeting series and CADET co-chairs Kathy Mazzuchelli  and Peter McCorisin agree that it is time to get the greater Caribou community together once again.

Both McCorisin and Mazzuchelli noted that a lot of work has occurred since 2006. There has been a huge outpouring of collaboration across Aroostook County that has made a difference in the battle against substance abuse and with prevention, but both stated the community needs to work together to get to the root of the problem which is giving our young people the tools and support they need to make those tough decisions that impact their young lives.

On Monday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Caribou Performing Arts Center, CADET members and the newly formed Caribou Youth Commission will guide parents, grandparents, child care givers, educators  and all others that wish to attend on how to really make a difference in our youth and our community.  The 12 members of the Caribou Youth Commission have reviewed the data collected in a survey provided to grade 8 and 11  students, and will provide a compelling overview of the results and what they feel we all need to do to strengthen the community and begin to speak in one voice for change.

“Although spring is here and the weather is getting warm and drawing us outdoors, May 21, is one night you will want to take a couple of hours to be indoors,” said Mazzuchelli.
