PIHS falls from the ranks of the undefeated
Rain put a damper on many of the schoolboy baseball games from the previous week, but that didn’t stop LCS/MSSM from posting four wins.
Presque Isle dropped its first game of the season, but avenged that loss in the second game of a doubleheader against MDI.

THE PITCH — Washburn’s Nick Bragg reaches back to throw a fastball against LCS/MSSM on Friday. The Eagles went on to defeat the Beavers, 11-9.
LCS/MSSM 7, Washburn 5 — For the second time in three days the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics Eagles defeated Washburn by two runs. Friday at home and Monday in Washburn.
LCS/MSSM improved their record to 6-3.
The Beavers are 2-4-1.
Southern Aroostook 11, Ashland 1 — At Dyer Brook Monday, Patrick Goodall recorded two singles, a double and two RBIs and also pitched a scoreless inning to lead the Warriors.
Trenton Cullinan added a single and a double with two RBIs for the 7-2 winners.
Tyler Chasse and Royce MacDonald each recorded a single for 1-8 Ashland, with Chasse driving in MacDonald in the first.
Presque Isle 5, MDI 4 — At Presque Isle Saturday, Saul Nunez pitched a strong game as the host Wildcats salvaged the second game of a doubleheader.
Jonah Stephenson had a big game at the plate with two singles and a double as Presque Isle upped its record to 8-1.
Coach Tim Olore said it was a well played game with good defense and unlike the first game.
“We were able to move some runners along and get some runs,” he said.
MDI 1, Presque Isle 0 — In the first game coach Olore said Ryley Norton pitched a great game for Presque Isle, but the offense couldn’t help as PIHS lost its first game of the season.
Norton only allowed three hits to the Trojans.
Hermon 7, Caribou 0 — At Mahaney Diamond at the University of Maine on Saturday, the Caribou Vikings couldn’t find any offense and lost to Hermon, 7-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Will Perkins pitched a no-hitter for the Hawks.
Hermon 6, Caribou 0 — Logan Trembley pitched a seven-hit shutout with five strikeouts as the Hawks completed a doubleheader sweep of the Vikings.
For 4-5 Caribou, Chad Caverhill singled twice.
LCS/MSSM 11, Washburn 9 — At Limestone Friday, Nate Tucker connected for two singles and a double and scored three runs and Chris Bernier added three singles and three RBIs to give Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics a hard-fought win over the Beavers.
Tristin Kirk hit a double and a single and scored two runs for the Eagles (5-3), and Brandon Thompson had a two-run double. Tyler Morgan pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the win.
Jordan McLaughlin had a grand slam for Washburn (2-3-1).
Ashland 9, Van Buren 4 — At Ashland Friday, Cody Blair doubled and singled and also got the win on the mound.
MacDonald chipped in with two singles and an RBI for 1-7 Ashland and Brandon Carney notched two singles.
Nic LaJoie and Marc LaJoie each singled, doubled and drove in a run for 0-6 Van Buren.
Hodgdon 13, Central Aroostook 3 — At Mars Hill Friday, Nick Lunn hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and singled in three more runs in the seventh to power the Hawks to victory.
Brendan York belted a two-run homer and a single to pace Central Aroostook. Dan Brewer singled twice.
LCS/MSSM 12, Ashland 2 — At Ashland Wednesday, Tucker powered the Eagles to the victory by going 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
Kirk added two singles, two RBIs and three runs for the 4-3 Eagles while Chris Paradis and Tyler Morgan combined to pitch five innings of three-hit baseball.
MacDonald tripled for Ashland.
Fort Fairfield 13, Van Buren 5 — At Van Buren Wednesday, Austin Bernier’s pitching and hitting powered the Tigers past the Crusaders.
Bernier tossed a four-hitter and struck out 15 in his mound duties, and posted a triple, double, single and an RBI to pace the offense. Billy Weisman added three singles for Fort Fairfield, and Landon Towle had a double, single and two RBIs.
Marc LaJoie racked up two singles and an RBI for Van Buren.
CAHS 12, Washburn 12 — The Washburn Beavers and Central Aroostook Panthers played to a rare tie on Wednesday in Washburn.
The Beavers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, but darkness left the game against the Panthers of Mars Hill deadlocked.
Nick Bragg topped Washburn with a two-run homer, and Chandler Dobson, Jordan McLaughlin and Andrew McLaughlin posted two singles each. Andrew McLaughlin had three RBIs, and Dobson and McLaughlin had one apiece.
Brewer recorded a solo homer for Central Aroostook, and Ross Grass added two singles.
Washburn 5, Ashland 2 — The Washburn Beavers evened their record at 2-2 with a 5-2 home win over the Ashland Hornets on May 8.
Ashland falls to 0-6.
