GHCA unveils honor parts

    John Bishop, head of school for Greater Houlton Christian Academy, has announced the honor parts for the graduating class of 2012:
MICAH WILEYMicah Wiley
Valedictorian

    Micah L. Wiley is the valedictorian. He is the son of Larry and Loreen Wiley of Hodgdon. Wiley has been a student at GHCA since his first day of kindergarten. He is a member of the National Honor Society. His success academically has brought him many awards including highest honors all four years, gold and silver certificates from the President’s Education Awards Program in multiple subjects all four years, ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student in athletics and academics for two years, and Houlton Rotary Club Recognition.
    Recognized for his steady, hard work, he has been awarded the Aroostook League Scholar Athlete Award. This past season Wiley celebrated his 1,000th career point in basketball. As a gifted runner, he is a five year participant in cross-country and earning the title of Aroostook League Cross Country Champion in 2010 and qualified for the state competition three years. His high school athletic participation also included one year of baseball and one year of volleyball.
    As a member of the Hodgdon United Baptist Church, Wiley is actively involved in ministry to the community and has been involved in several service projects and outreach events. He will attend Liberty University this fall as a business major.

ETHAN HOLMESEthan Holmes
Salutatorian

    Ethan Q. Holmes, son of Peter and Belinda Holmes of Houlton, has been named the salutatorian of the class of 2012. Holmes has been a student at GHCA since his first day of kindergarten. For his consistent hard work he has been recognized by the Houlton Rotary Club; received awards in multiple subjects from the President’s Education Program; and was chosen for the ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student award for two years. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Maine Principal’s Association Principal’s Award for 2012.
    A four-year member of the Student Council, Holmes has faithfully served his class as president for all four years. Holmes has received several academic and character awards, including the Christian service award. He has excelled academically while wholeheartedly competing in varsity basketball, baseball, cross country and intramural volleyball at the Academy.
    A gifted musician, Holmes has been a member of the Academy’s praise and worship team for two years and the Houlton Full Gospel Worship Team for three years. Most recently he has joined Heart of Praise as their lead drummer.
    Holmes is a six-year member of Teen Bible Quiz and has received two National Memorization Awards. He has served on the volunteer staff at Whited Bible Camp for the past three years and was recognized as Male Staff Member of the Year in 2010 and 2011. He is an active participant in his church youth group and always enjoys serving other in various church and school sponsored service projects.
    Holmes will be pursuing a bachelors of science degree in digital media communications at Valley Forge Christian College.
JOSEPH EBNERJoseph Ebner
First Honor Essayist

    Joseph A. Ebner is the first honor essayist of Greater Houlton Christian Academy for 2012. He is the son of Kelley Fitzpatrick of Houlton. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has served his class as vice president for two years.
    Ebner has been awarded gold and silver certificates from the President’s Education Awards Program in multiple subjects all four years, ACSI Distinguished Christian High School Student, and Houlton Rotary Club Recognition.
    In his sophomore year, he played a lead role in the Academy’s musical production of “Annie” and discovered a love for drama. For the next two years he was a member of the Houlton Starbright Children’s Theater.
    He has contributed to several community service projects including Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross Blood Drives, and packing Kiwanis Christmas Food Baskets.
    Musically, Ebner has participated in local community concerts, the school chorus and the Praise and Worship Team at the Academy. He has also enjoyed spending two summers working for Living Waters in the kitchen and as a counselor.
    Ebner has worked hard not only at the Academy, but has maintained two part-time jobs as well. As a Pampered Chef independent consultant, he enjoys sharing his passion for cooking with others. In addition, he is a production worker at Pizza Hut. He has donated his cooking and dessert services to local fund-raising events.
    He will attend Southern Maine Community College, majoring in culinary arts management.
