Harvey, Anderson advance in tennis playoffs

    Houlton’s Zach Harvey and Lucas Anderson have qualifed for the  state round of 48 slated for Friday, May 25 at Colby College in Waterville.
    The semifinals and finals will be played on Monday, May 28.
    Results of the Region 1 State Singles Tournament held in Caribou, boys’ round one: Sullivan Abbott (Fort Kent) defeated Jordan Sears (Calais) 8-2; C.Woods (H) defeated Mark Levasseur (Van Buren) 8-3, Lucien Caverhill (Caribou) defeated Wesley Comeau (Calais) 8-1, Lance Jandreau (Fort Kent) defeated Connor Lapierre (Van Buren) 8-5, Alex Chasse (Fort Kent) defeated Jake Gendreau (Madawaska) 8-0
    Second-round results with player’s ranking: (1) Connor Shaw (Presque Isle) defeated Abbott 8-3; (8) Michael Marquis (Caribou) defeated C.     The qualifying round results were: Shaw defeated Marquis 6-3, 7-5; Laplante defeated Hughs 4-6, 6-4, 6-4; Harvey defeated Willey 6-3, 6-0; and Anderson defeated Gendreau 6-4, 6-2.
    In the girls’ first round, Megan Ouellette (Madawaska) defeated Caleigh Sullivan (H) 8-0; Abby Stevens (Fort Kent) defeated Melissa Carson (Presque Isle) 8-3; Lindsey Lavoie (Madawaska) defeated Chloe Black (Calais) 8-3; Katie Keaton (Caribou) defeated Autumn London (H) 8-0; and Caela Fenderson (Calais) defeated Natasha Burgoine (Van Buren) 8-4.
    In the second round with player’s ranking, (1) Carlee Pinette (Caribou) defeated Ouellette 8-0; (8) Parise Rossignol (Van Buren) defeated Stevens 8-5; (2) Haley Lizotte (Van Buren) defeated Lavoie 8-3; (7) Ashley Richards (Caribou) defeated Kayla Girardin (Presque Isle) 8-1; Keaton defeated (3) Sarah Smith (Calais) 8-3; (6) Dani Wolland (Presque Isle) defeated Kiera Caron (Fort Kent) 8-2; (3) Emily Collins (Madawaska) defeated Fenderson 8-3; and (5) Roxy Pelletier (Fort Kent) defeated Courtney Bragan (H) 8-2.
    Results of the qualifying round were Pinette defeated Rossignol 6-2, 6-1; Richards defeated Lizotte 6-3, 6-3; Keaton defeated Wolland 6-1, 6-2; and Pelletier defeated Collins 6-4, 6-2.
    The Houlton High School tennis team played two matches last week, along with several players competing in Saturday’s State Singles Tournament in Caribou.
    On Monday, the Houlton boys and girls hosted Fort Kent, with both teams falling to their opponents.
    In boys’ action, Fort Kent swept the doubleheader by scores of 4-1 and the girls won both matches 5-0.
    Results of the first match were singles: Zach Harvey (H) over Lance Jandreau 8-6; Lucas Anderson (H) topped Alex Chasse 8-3; and Josh Sullivan (H) was bested by Sullivan Abbot, 8-1. In doubles, Robby Woods/Ethan Nickerson (H) defeated Eric Deschenes/Matt Daigle 9-8 (7-4), while Christian Crane/Lucas Grant (H) topped Boo Prescott/Adam Labbe 8-5.
    In the second matchup in singles: Harvey (H) edged Jandreau 8-6; Anderson (H) over Chasse 8-3; and Abbot defeated Cody Woods (H) 8-4. In doubles, Sullivan/Nickerson (H) downed Deschenes/Daigle 8-3; and Steven Philips/Dakota Gramour (H) defeated Prescott/Labbe 8-5.
    In the girls’ matchup, singles, Courtney Bragan (H) was defeated 8-0 and 8-0 by Roxy Pelletier; Caleigh Sullivan (H) lost to Abby Stevens 8-1 and 8-0; Autumn London (H) fell 8-0 and 8-0 to Kiera Caron.
    In doubles: Jasmine Hardy/Jackie Condon (H) were topped 8-1 and 8-1 by Amelia Guimond/Lauren Doak, while Janelle Levesque/Tessa Winship (H) were beaten 8-1 by Samantha Dubay/Alexa Pelletier and 8-6 by Paige Pelletier/Rudy Martin.
    Last Wednesday, the Houlton boys lost to host Presque Isle, 3-2.
    Results of singles matchups: Harvey (H) lost to Conner Shaw, 9-8 (5); Anderson (H) fell 9-7 to Osman Castro; and Woods was bested 8-1 by Liam Hughes. In doubles: Sullivan/Nickerson (H) defeated Chris Carroll/Drew Barrett 8-6 and Grant/R. Woods (H) downed Freeman Short/Mike Michaud 8-6.
    The Houlton girls lost 5-0 to Presque Isle, as Bragan (H) was toppled 8-0 by Dani Wolland; Sullivan (H) was defeated 8-0 by Kayla Girardin and London (H) lost to Melissa Carson 8-0. In doubles: Hardy/Condon (H) were topped by Sara Gilson/Hilary Boucher 8-0 and Levesque/Winship lost to Jenn Hallett/Chelsey Carroll 8-0.
    In an exhibition, Sarah Sirois (H) fell to Bethany Beckwith 8-0.
