PATRIOT BURGER — Denis Madore, commander DAV/Smart Ricker Chapter No. 10 and Clarence McLaughlin were on hand for the unveiling of a new fundraiser for the DAV.  mem-patriotburger-(clr)-dc-arsh-21 Governor’s Restaurant in Presque Isle will be selling a Patriot Burger with 50 cents from every purchase going to help Aroostook Veterans.

The eatery will be selling a Patriot Burger, which is one-third pound of Angus beef, topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato and a homemade roll for $5.25. For each sale the DAV Smart/Ricker Chapter No. 10 gets 50 cents.

The year-round fundraiser, which was unveiled Friday at the restaurant, is the brain-child of chapter chaplain Craig Fay.

“This is the launching point, but we want this to go statewide,” said Fay. “The Patriot Burger honors the veterans who have served in Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, Vietnam, whereever. It honors them 365 days of the year and gives us all-the-time source of funds.”

Fay says the money goes toward making homes more handicapped accessible, for fuel assistance and other programs for returning veterans.

Governor’s owner Tony Sullivan was quick to jump on board to help veterans.

“I gladly accepted for a way to promote and raise money for the local DAV,” said Sullivan. “I think it is very important to help the community. This works into our business very well, because we are doing what we do best in making food and burgers and making people happy, but also being able to give something to the community as well.”
