Softball a shootout in Class D

    It’s shaping up to be an exciting last week of the schoolgirl regular softball season. Several Class D teams from the region are looking at postseason play and in Class B Caribou is a lock for the playoffs, while Presque Isle is hanging onto the last spot by a thread.

    Here’s a recap of games played through Monday:

    CAHS 24, Wisdom 12 — At St. Agatha Monday, Central Aroostook doubled up Wisdom, 24-12, to record their eighth win against only four losses.

    The Panthers completed an impressive stretch of games which included wins over LCS/MSSM and Southern Aroostook. CAHS is currently in sixth place in Eastern Maine Class D.

    Presque Isle 6, John Bapst 2 — At Husson University in Bangor Saturday, Carly Bell had three singles and Laurin Ackerson scattered seven hits as Presque Isle beat John Bapst of Bangor in the first game of a doubleheader.

    Courtney Colligan tripled and singled and Megan Seward had two singles and two RBI for Presque Isle.

    Presque Isle 13, John Bapst 8 — In the second game, Colligan had four singles, scored four times and knocked in a pair and Karlee Bernier had three singles, three runs scored and three stolen bases as the Wildcats (6-6) won.

    Ackerson, again, went the distance for the victory.

    CAHS 4, LCS/MSSM 3 — The Central Aroostook Panthers made it two road wins in two days with a hard fought victory over the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics Eagles Friday.

    Rachael Grew knocked in the game-winning run in the top of the eighth to lead Central Aroostook to the win. Victoria McIntyre hit a game tying two-run home run in the fifth. Kayla Cushman added two singles and a double, while Whitney Klein had two hits and two runs scored to pace the Panthers. McIntyre threw a complete game with six strike outs, as the Panthers improve to 6-3.

    Amanda Allen led Limestone (9-2) with two singles. Karen Page added a single and two RBI in the loss.

    CAHS 23, SAHS 8 — At Dyer Brook Thursday, Michaela King hit a three-run triple, a single and a sacrifice fly as Central Aroostook improved to 5-3.

    Klein and Shannon Todd each added two singles with two RBIs. Paige Garrison and Cushman contributed RBI doubles.

    LCS/MSSM 20, Fort Fairfield 1 — At Fort Fairfield Wednesday, Melissa Cantafio had a double and three singles to lead Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics to the victory.

    Kelsee Albert added three singles for the Eagles, while Daniele Pelkey singled twice.

    Madawaska 16, Ashland  2 — At Ashland Wednesday, Sam Nadeau’s three-run double in the top of the first inning propelled Madawaska to the victory.

    Marissa Chasse singled twice and Anna Paradis doubled for 5-6 Ashland.

    Ashland 34, CAHS 29 — At Ashland May 15, Paradis posted a double and five RBI to lead the Hornets past the Panthers of Mars Hill.

    Brooke LaBelle added two singles and three RBI for Ashland (5-5), and Macie Bellanceau also hit two singles and had two RBI.
