Cawley takes Aroostook League tennis title
CARIBOU — The Aroostook League middle school tennis tournament took place Friday at the Caribou High School courts, with champions crowned in girls’ singles, boys’ singles, girls’ doubles and boys’ doubles.
Michelle Cawley of Presque Isle won the girls singles tourney, defeating Gabrielle Marquis of Caribou in the finals, 8-5.
Anna Soderberg and Connor Spencer, both of Caribou, tied for third.
Ethan Plourde of Caribou was the boys singles winner, topping Josiah Krul, also of Caribou, in the championship match, 8-6.
Peter Rioux of Van Buren and Byron Winslow of PI tied for third place.
In girls doubles, the Caribou duo of Jenna Boucher and Ashley Matlock stopped Madison Doucette and Danielle Hanson, also of Caribou, in the finals, 8-3.
Emma O’Connell and Sedona Lucas of PI shared third place with Miranda Bragan and Gabriella Donovan, also of PI.
In boys double, the team of Jordan Bevins and Noah Heidorn of Caribou beat the team of Bailey Griffeth and Connor Plourde, also of Caribou, 8-6.
Isaac Madore and Colin Daigle of PI and Brandon Sytulek and Neal Soucie of Van Buren were the third-place teams.
