Wildcat boys ease past WA Raiders
Girls drop pair of contests

The Presque Isle Wildcats baseball and softball squads hosted a Memorial Day doubleheader against Washington Academy, and both ended up in sweeps – one in favor of the hosts and the other not going their way.

The ’Cat boys dominated the Raiders twice, 10-0 and 22-1. Ryley Norton pitched all six innings of the first game and surrendered just two hits. He also joined Wilder York in leading the offense with three hits and three RBIs each.
In game two, PI lashed out 22 hits – five by Tyler Seeley and four by Isaac LaJoie – in the easy victory. Saul Nunez, York and Jacob Player combined on the pitching duties for the Wildcats, who improved to 14-1 with the two wins.
The Presque Isle softball team came out on the short end in both its contests, 2-1 in the opener and 16-3 in game two. Laurin Ackerson pitched well in the first game despite being handed the loss. Jordi Legassie had a hit and Courtney Colligan came across for the lone run for the Lady Wildcats.
PI was routed in the second game as WA’s Kassidy Seeley earned her second pitching win of the day. Colligan tripled and singled to pace the offense for PI, which dropped to 7-8.
Both squads, which close out the regular season today with games in Caribou, appear to be bound for the playoffs. The baseball team is in second place, will avoid a preliminary-round game and will host a quarterfinal on Thursday, June 7. The softball team is in 13th place and will be on the road for a prelim contest next Tuesday, June 5. The final official Heal Point standings will be released later this week.
Last Tuesday, the PI squads recorded shutout wins over Fort Kent. The baseball team won 11-0 as Player threw a one-hitter and Seeley had three hits and four RBI. Ackerson and Colligan combined on the one-hitter in the softball game. Katie Patenaude singled three times for the winners.
In Class D baseball play, Central Aroostook doubled up on Madawaska Friday, 4-2, with Mike McClung delivering the key hit with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Dan Brewer singled and doubled for the Panthers.

Ashland stopped winless Van Buren Friday, 13-7, with Mike Cook going 4 for 5 at the plate to lead the charge and Royce MacDonald notching three extra-base hits.
Fort Fairfield bested Washburn Friday, 7-3, as Landon Towle struck out nine while going the distance on the mound. Ryan Pelkey’s two hits and three RBI led FF at the plate. Kyle McLaughlin, Jordan McLaughlin and Justin Farley had a hit apiece for Washburn.
A day earlier, the Tigers picked up a 9-4 win over Limestone-MSSM as Austin Bernier struck out 10 in the complete-game performance. Bernier and Pelkey had two hits each, while Billy Weissman had three singles. Chris Bernier did the pitching for the Eagles and Brandon Thompson’s three hits paced their offense.
Last Wednesday, Washburn defeated Ashland, 10-3, behind Jordan McLaughlin’s two-run homer and Noah Farley’s three hits and two RBI. Cody Blair ripped a two-run home run for the Hornets and Brandon Carney chipped in with two hits.
Ashland did pull off a victory last Tuesday, beating FF, 24-11. MacDonald tripled and singled twice and Cook tripled and singled for the winners, while Bernier had four hits to lead the Tigers at the plate.
Central Aroostook’s Corey Richardson knocked in three runs as his team beat Hodgdon last Tuesday, 9-4. Brendan York got the win on the mound in the matchup between the top two teams in the division.
In the current Class D baseball standings, Central Aroostook is in first place with an 11-2-1 record. FF is 7-7 and in seventh place and the two teams square off this afternoon in Mars Hill.
Washburn was 5-7-1 and in 12th place heading into yesterday’s finale at home against Greater Houlton Christian Academy. The Tigers and Beavers are virtual locks to qualify for the playoffs, which begin next Tuesday, June 5.
Ashland, at 3-11, will not make the playoffs. The Hornets are currently in 16th place out of 19 teams and were scheduled to play Wisdom yesterday to end their slate. Only the top-13 teams in Class D qualify for the post-season.

For softball in the Class D ranks, CA routed Madawaska Friday, 19-1, as Paige Garrison clubbed out four hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in four runs to lead the attack. Rachael Grew homered and singled twice and Victoria McIntyre pitched a no-hitter.
The Panthers also picked up an easy 24-7 triumph Thursday over Southern Aroostook as McIntyre tripled twice and struck out 10 on the mound.
Also on Thursday, Fort Fairfield lost to Limestone-MSSM, 12-2, with the Eagles scoring seven of their runs in the second inning and banging out 14 hits in the contest. Emily Blaisdell’s two singles led the Tigers.
CA beat Hodgdon 21-7 last Tuesday as Michaela King had three hits and McIntyre two. The Panthers scored 11 times in the second inning to key the lopsided win.
That same day, Abbey Player singled four times as Fort Fairfield crushed Ashland, 22-5.
The D softball standings show CA in fourth place at 11-4. Ashland is 5-7 and in seventh place, while Fort Fairfield is in 10th with a 4-8 mark. The Panthers and Tigers meet in Mars Hill this afternoon, while Ashland was supposed to play at Wisdom yesterday to complete its regular season.
