Hunting instructor speaks at Rotary

MARS HILL NEWS

by Tomi Henderson

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, June 5, at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Rotarian Roger Shaw, who spoke of teaching hunter safety to area individuals. In the 40 years he has been teaching the course, he has had almost 1,000 adults and children, often seeing three generations attending.

The course covers a variety of subjects such as gun handling, safety, survival, compass reading, maps, first aid, regulations and land owner relations.

One of the biggest obstacles to hunting is posted land. Shaw stated that, while Maine is fortunate to have lots of public land to hunt on, you need to have permission to hunt on privately-owned land.
