PIHS spring athletes honored

    PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle High School spring athletic awards night was held June 4, with members of the JV and varsity softball teams, JV and varsity baseball teams, varsity tennis teams and varsity track and field teams recognized for their participation during the recently-completed sports season.

    The outstanding senior athlete awards are voted by the senior class and were presented at the June 7 Class Day. This year’s recipients are Kayla Richards and Isaac LaJoie. Richards competed in soccer, basketball and track and field, while LaJoie was involved in soccer, hockey and baseball.

    At the awards night, JV softball coach Mike Patenaude and assistant coach Mike Shaw presented certificates to freshmen Erin Ackerson, Chelsy Argraves, Macy Desmond, Kelsey Gilson, Emma Kinney, Megan McKnight, Megan Seward, Kalie Ward and manager Rachel Patenaude; sophomores Logan Caron, Molly O’Connell and Hanna Postell and junior Madison Michaud.

    JV baseball coach Brad Boyles and assistant coach Brent Boyles presented certificates to freshmen Josh Boucher, Ben Buckley, Bradley Guerrette, Cody McGlinn, Kyle Nadeau, Cristian Nunez, Andrew Paterson and manager Aubrie Gross; sophomores Carter LaPointe, Frank Nunez, Conor Seward and Ryder Soucy; and juniors Scott Rhynold and manager Paige Beaulieu.

    Girls varsity tennis coach Monica Bearden handed out certificates to freshman Frances Castro, and sophomores Blair Bailey and Lora Ireland; first-year letters to freshmen Hilary Boucher and Jenna Hallett, sophomore Sara Gilson and senior Bethany Beckwith; second-year letters to junior Kayla Girardin and senior Chelsey Carroll; a third-year letter to senior Melissa Carson and a fourth-year letter to senior Dani Wolland.

    Boys varsity tennis coach Sam Picard gave certificates to freshmen Clint Adler and manager Maddie Caron and sophomores Andrew Dyer and Garrett Kidney; first-year letters to freshmen Chris Carroll, sophomore Mike Michaud, juniors Drew Barrett and Freeman Short and senior Quinn Graves; a second-year letter to sophomore Liam Hughes; a third-year letter to senior Osman Castro; and a fourth-year letter to senior Connor Shaw.

    Varsity softball coach Alan Curtis and his assistant, Bill Guerrette, presented certificates to freshmen Macy Desmond and Kalie Ward and junior manager Katie McKenna. First-year letters went to freshmen Kelsey Gilson, Jordi Legassie and Megan Seward and junior manager Danica Ladd; second-year letters to sophomores Carly Bell and Shea Brown, juniors Laurin Ackerson, Liza Buck and Kailey Shaw; and seniors Jessica Dumais and Katie Patenaude; and third-year letters to junior Karlee Bernier and seniors Courtney Colligan and Jessica Theriault.

    Girls varsity track and field coach Ron McAtee and his assistant, Mike Waugh, presented certificates to freshmen Hillary Hartsgrove, Lazareth Porquin, Madison Shaw, Brynn Staples and managers Mackayla Burbee and Emma Langille; and sophomores Shannon Sweeney and manager Alex Hemphill. Garnering first-year letters were freshmen Jessica Baldwin and Cameo Madore, sophomores Shelby Condon and Lauren Schiff and senior Hillary Albert. Second-year letter winners were sophomores Bonnie Corey, Kaleigh Kinney and Jackie Lambert; junior Amanda Bennett and senior Kayla Richards. Third-year letters went to juniors Samantha Simonds and Kali Warner; while senior Erica Hemphill earned a fourth-year letter.

    Boys varsity track and field coach Lori Googins and her assistant, Joe Greaves, honored the following certificate recipients: freshmen Matt Burtt, David Cyr, Brian Fournier, John Freeman, Brenden Goulet, Austin Hanson, Mitchell Kelley, Isaac Michaud and Noah Rossignol; sophomores Lewis Amero, Josh Jones, Trevor Levesque, Kyle MacCallum and Joel Tewksbury; and junior Brandon LeBlanc. Earning first-year letters were freshmen Austin Albert, James Churchill, Jeremy Gingrich and Keeghan Lowe; sophomores Dustin Drabek and Devin Schinhofen; junior Khyver Lowe and seniors Lucas Cyr and Jordan Mitchell. Second-year letters went to sophomores Mitchell Ayotte, Michael Donovan, Isaac Estey and Andrew Michaud; juniors Scott Delong and Joel Shay; and seniors Mitchell Bennett, Dylan Michaud and Trey Stewart. Juniors Thomas Freeman, Gabe Player, Jon Rochester and Jacob Williams and senior David Paradis all earned third-year letters; while Sam Clukey, Matt Eager, Logan Good and Ben Sipe all received fourth-year letters.

    Varsity baseball coach Tim Olore and assistant coach James York gave out first-year letters to sophomores Josh Gordon, Karson Wilcox and managers Elena Ford, Paige Gagnon, Katelyn Michaud and Jeremy Shaw; and juniors Corey Belanger, Cody Flannery and Kyle Goupille. Second-year letters went to sophomores Saul Nunez and Tyler Seeley, juniors Adam Flynn and Jonah Stephenson and seniors Ryley Norton, Jacob Player and Evan Waddell; and fourth-year letters to seniors Isaac LaJoie and Wilder York.

    Ryley Norton was selected the winner of the Aaron Archer Award in baseball.

    Also during the evening, Aroostook League scholar-athlete awards, which were named after the winter sports season, went to Chelsey Carroll and Isaac LaJoie, while the PVC scholar-athlete award recipients, also given following the winter season, were Brittany Good, Sarah McEachern, LaJoie and Andrew Kofstad.

    Sweatshirt recipients, who accumulated six varsity letters in any combination of sports, were Chelsey Carroll (in skiing and tennis), Bonnie Corey (cross country running, skiing and track and field), Thomas Freeman (skiing and track and field) and Jonah Stephenson (soccer, basketball and baseball).

    Earning jackets for lettering in one sport for four years were Sam Clukey (track and field), Logan Good (track and field), Ben Sipe (track and field) and Dani Wolland (tennis). Other fourth-year letter winners who received their jacket for participation in a previous sport were Isaac LaJoie (baseball), Wilder York (baseball), Connor Shaw (tennis), Erica Hemphill (track and field) and Matt Eager (track and field).

    Long-time varsity softball coach Alan Curtis also was given special recognition as he is retiring from the post.
