Students of New Sweden school place third in math competition

While math and fun are not generally synonymous, New Sweden students experienced both while enjoying success through a statewide online math contest.

After the weeklong competition concluded on May 4, New Sweden’s first- through eighth-graders had answered a grand total of 69,645 math questions correctly with an average accuracy score of 87 percent. Three New Sweden students even placed in the state’s Top Ten list.

School-wide, students math skills earned the New Sweden Consolidated School third place in the contest and won their classrooms math software for being the top scorer during one day of the contest.

The contest was hosted through sumdog.com, a website with free online math games designed to improve mental math fluency in first- through eighth-graders.

For their achievement, New Sweden students received certificates of merit.
