Bank of Maine 14, Knights of Columbus 5
Bank of Maine spotted the Knights an early lead but quickly settled down and put the game out of reach in the second inning. Brennan Poitras tossed 2-1/3 innings, recording five strikeouts and also helping out in the field with an unassisted double play. Jaelynn Doody was solid in relief with 5 Ks in 2-2/3 innings. Seth Roy added a double and Sebastain Marquis two singles to lead the offense.
The Knights received good pitching from Hunter Lindsey in relief to slow the offensive attack of Bank of Maine. Lindsey pitched 3-2/3 innings, giving up three runs and recording six strikeouts. K of C was lead at the plate by Nic Sleeper with a double.
Northstars 19, Eagles 2
The Northstars combined solid pitching with strong hitting to get by the Eagles of Woodland. Noah Hixon had two triples and a singles and Kendra Furber had a double and two singles to lead the Northstars attack. Joshua Quist had a triple for the winners. On the mound, Alex Bouchard, Austin Findlen, Carter Quist and Joshua Quist held the Eagles to two runs.
For the Eagles, Ghent Durepo, Callie McBreairty, Hollie McDougal and Amber Moir combined to strike out 11 Northstars. Wyatt Taggett did a fine job catching for the entire game and he was rewarded for his efforts when he threw out a Northstar attempting to steal home.
VFW 12, Key Bank 11
A great night for baseball produced a highly-contested, extra-inning affair for VFW and Key Bank. VFW’s Matt Nadeau and Key Bank’s Noah Frost dominated play early with outstanding pitching on both sides. In the top of the fifth, Key Bank produced six runs with some good baserunning and a Frost triple, giving them a 10-3 lead. But VFW fought back by getting six runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth on seven straight hits — highlighted by a Corey Guerrette gap shot.
One run for Key in the sixth and two by VFW in the bottom of the inning tied the game at 11. After a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, Brandyn Matheson drew a walk and Evan Desmond had the game-winning hit to give VFW the victory.
Bank of Maine 13, Tigers 12
Bank of Maine held off a sixth-inning rally from a resilient Tigers team to earn a hard-fought victory in a back-and-forth contest. Marcus Caudill had a strong game, pitching 3-1/3 innings in relief to earn the win and added a triple at the plate. Sebastian Marquis added four hits and was strong behind the plate as well, teaming up with Brennan Poitras to throw out two would-be base stealers. Searra Herbert was strong in her first Little League start on the mound, pitching two innings.
The Tigers also played well, just coming up short in the sixth inning as the game ended with the tying run on third. Offensively the Tigers were led by Carter Moir and Brandon Manter with three hits apiece. The Tigers also displayed good defense at times by cutting down three Bank of Maine runners at home plate.
Sleepers 24, Police 7
Sleepers’ hitters put the ball in play 28 times in four turns at bat in the strong offensive showcase. Every Sleepers player made contact with the ball. Chris Cassidy recorded his first hit of the season, driving in two runs, while Jacob Ouellette pitched two solid innings of relief in his first-ever trip to the mound. Alec Cyr and Spenser McDuffie had five hits each, Cole Jackson and Stewert Curtis had four hits each and Camden Huck and Jacob Ouellette both went 3 for 4.
Dillon Paddelford lead the Police with 3 hits, while Dawson Hebert and Bailey Griffeth each had two.
Key Bank 7, Bank of Maine 1
Tough defense and good pitching made the matchup between Bank of Maine and Key Bank a fine one. Key Bank scored first, putting up two runs in the first and adding four more in the second with timely RBIs from Rieley Bossie, Noah Frost and Jacob Soucy. Seth Beidelman, Branden Masse, Owen Martin and Jacob Paul also had hits in the game. On the mound for Key Bank, Seth Beidelman had a rocky start by walking the first three batters he faced, but then settled in to strike out 11 Bank of Maine batters and walking just two more in five-plus innings of work.
The shutout was taken away by Andy Russell with an RBI single in the top of the sixth for Bank of Maine. Brennan Poitras pitched 4-1/3 innings, striking out six and walking just two in the loss.
VFW 25, Knights of Columbus 4
On another nice night for baseball, the VFW Bluebird bats were hot again, as eight players had a hit in the game, with five enjoying multi-hit efforts. Katie Clark had her first Little League triple in the fourth and Josh Cummings got the win by going 3-1/3 innings and giving up only three runs.
For K of C, Jojo Fields had two singles, while Dylan and Colby Bonville each had singles. Nic Sleeper pitched well in relief as he fanned three.
