Cary volunteers honored at Annual Recognition Banquet

CARIBOU — Volunteers were treated to lunch and entertainment at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet at Cary Medical Center at the beginning of summer.

According to Coordinator of Volunteer Services Betty Walker, 68 volunteers gave a total of 8,200 hours of volunteer service to the hospital in 2011.

Volunteers donate their time and talents in a variety of ways at the hospital, including providing clerical assistance and working on special projects; volunteering at the customer service desk and the Cary Gift Shop; assisting with bulk mailings; volunteering in many hospital departments such as the lab, radiology and cardiac rehabilitation; mail delivery, and assisting with special events such as the Annual Cary Health Fair and blood drives, just to name a few.

“Our volunteers are such an important part of our Cary family, and we can’t thank them enough for all that they do,” noted Kris Doody, RN, Cary CEO.

Recognized at the banquet were the following volunteers:

• Avis Woods and Ellie Thomas, each contributed 4,000-6,000 hours of volunteer service in 2011;

• Jeannette St. Pierre contributing 3,500 hours of service in 2011;

• Rex Wyman, Doris Gagnon and Mariel Thomas, each contributing 3,000-3,500 hours of service in 2011;

• Kristi Herron and Dorothy Wakem, each contributing 2,000-3,000 hours of service in 2011;

• Barbara Collins, Jessie Thompson, Rita Ewing, Joan Butler and Shirley Lauritsen, each contributing 2,000-2,500 hours of service in 2011;

• Albert St. Pierre, Marilyn Pearson, Sylvia Bridgham. David Thomas and Donna Small, each contributing 1,500-2,000 hours of service in 2011;

• John Lajoie, Margaret Jones, Marie Cullins, Barbara Aiken, Claudia Hitchings, Mary Ketch and Ward Silsbee, each contributing 1,000-1,500 hours of service in 2011;

• Gail Michaud, Day Brewer, Delores Martin, Albert Akeley, Jeannette Corriveau, Andrea Gallagher, Ginny Benner and Mavis Williams, each contributing 500-1,000 hours of service in 2011;

• Audrey Silsbee, Marilyn Cyr, Ellen Corrow, Gwen Ferguson, Allyson Masse, Arlene Doody, Sylvia Akeley, Judith Duprey, Bettylou Ackerson, Diane Parent and Roberta Walton, each contributing 100-500 hours of service in 2011;

• Jacquelyn King, for giving 25 years of hospital volunteer time and service; and
