CARIBOU — Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan made the announcement on June 28 that the Caribou Police Department, in conjunction with the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety and the 2012 High Visibility Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign, will be conducting a safety checkpoint on Routes 1, 89 and 161 in Caribou during the Fourth of July week.
“The checkpoint will ensure all motor vehicles, drivers and passengers are in compliance with state of Maine laws and make sure the roads are safe for traveling motorists this holiday weekend,” Gahagan said.
Officers will be checking for proper seatbelt use, inadequate exhaust and tires, violations of inspection and registration laws, sobriety and other safety related issues.
