Fourth of July festivities put Limestone in the limelight

LIMESTONE, Maine — A flurry of fireworks colorfully concluded Limestone’s week-long Fourth of July Celebration, which drew hundreds to the small community for festivities like the town’s famed parade.

With over 80 entries this year, the streets were packed to watch Limestone’s Fourth of July parade, themed “Red, White and Blue Vibrations,” this year.

Parade winners were:

• BLVD Graphix, and their car-loads of helium balloons (which were distributed amongst the crowd) won Best Business Entry;

• The Limestone/Caswell Historical Society adorned their float not only with red, white and blue, they even featured Limestone’s Citizens of the Year to win Best Organization/Club Entry;

• Limestone’s Elementary Level Destination Imagination team covered their float with patriotic decorations to win Best School Entry;

• Judy Herrmann and Tanya Dowiat won the Best Patriotic Entry, with their little Gator vehicle decked out in red, white and blue with one of them dressed up as Uncle Sam;

• The Queens of Mapleton and their shiny Castle float won Best Queen Entry;

• Gerald Michaud and his classic 1931 Graham Prosperity 56 won Best Antique Vehicle;

• Art Thompson and family won Best Antique Farm Machinery for their tractor collection;

• Members of the Pine State Motorcycle Club won Best Vehicle for their red, white and blue adorned motorcycles;

• Gary Thompson and his red, white and blue painted truck from 1937 won Best Farm Machinery; and

• Clover Hill Ranch won Best Animal Entry for their four horses and patriotically adorned riders.
