Arita Anneli Spencer

    Spencer, Arita A., 73, July 3, 2012.  Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home.  Interment was held in the New Limerick Cemetery.
    NEW LIMERICK – Arita Anneli Spencer, 73, wife of Joseph, M.C. Spencer, went home to her heavenly Father on July 3, 2012 at her residence after an extended illness. She was born November 10, 1938 in Varkaus, Finland, the daughter of Viljo and Liala (Pursiainen) Reponen.
    Arita was educated  and also attended Bible College in Finland. She was married to James M.C. Spencer on January 27, 1973, and was a dedicated member of the Houlton Full Gospel Assembly. Mrs. Spencer’s faith in her Lord and love for her friends and family was exhibited by her life as a born again Christian. Arita helped extend God’s  love to anyone who needed it and enjoyed helping at nursing homes where she volunteered her time caring for residents and their families. Her green thumb was well known among her family and friends. She was also a wonderful cook, decorator, seamstress and enjoyed crafts.
    She is survived by her husband of 39 years, James of New Limerick; a son, Matthew C. Spencer and his wife, Amy, of Windsor, CT; a daughter, Miriam C. Zuraik and her husband, Ralph, of Houlton; a brother, Harri Reponen and his wife, Gudryn, of Sweden; a sister, Asta Enila and her husband, Matti, of West Boylston, MA; grandchildren, Isaac Spencer and Evan Spencer both of Windsor, CT, Mattaoe and Maraya Zuraik, both of Houlton; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
    In keeping with Arita’s wishes there will be no calling hours.  Funeral services were held 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 8 at the Houlton Full Gospel Assembly Church, Outer Court Street, Houlton with Rev. Kevin Hatch officiating. Internment was in the New Limerick Cemetery. A reception followed at the church. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to Houlton Full Gospel Assembly Church, P.O.
