Woods receives scholarship
The Scholarship Committee of the Houlton United Methodist Church has announced that this year’s recipient of a $1,000 scholarship is Cody Woods, son of Karl and Lisa Woods. Over the years, Woods has acted as an usher, liturgist, choir member, instrumentalist, and lay speaker delivering the sermon. He was also involved in the youth group and has volunteered at church suppers and activities as well as helping to direct youth services. Woods is this year’s valedictorian at Houlton High School and will be attending Bowdoin College this fall, where he will major in biochemistry.
GHCA volunteer art
Dwight Jeans, a volunteer parent, started offering students at the Greater Houlton Christian Academy art activities. He would like to continue in that effort, but with a limited budget, he needs parents and community help.
“Our students love the new art activities being offered, but the Academy just cannot expand its budget right now to cover these additional supplies,” said Head of School John Bishop.
Jeans is looking for donations of paints (all water-based types, container sizes and colors); paper (all type sizes and colors); bristle boards (all types, sizes and colors); pastels, crayons, modeling clay, ceramic clay, ceramic glazes and possibly a donation of a kiln; clay, baked in the oven type; and brushes (soft bristle, all sizes).
Jeans would appreciate any help with these items for the voluntary program.
