The Houlton Little League softball all-stars were the runners-up in the double-elimination District 3 Little League Tournament held in Hermon.
In the finals, Houlton lost for the second time to Hermon, 7-1. Houlton’s only run was scored when Kolleen Bouchard walked, stole second base and eventually scored on a fielder’s choice.
The score was 1-all until the fourth when Hermon struck for three runs, adding two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to claim the championship. Sharing pitching duties for Houlton were Aspen Flewelling, Kristen Graham and Bouchard, who allowed five hits, seven walks and three srikeouts.
Lone hit in the championship game came off the bat of Graham, who singled in the sixth.
Houlton had made their way to the championship by defeating Orono/Glenburn and Hampden, with their first loss coming to Hermon.
In their opening game to Orono/Glenburn, the Houlton softball all-stars took a 14-4 win. Leading the offensive charge were Bouchard, who tripled and singled and scored twice, while Gentle had two singles and two runs. Graham doubled and scored three times, while Victoria Holmes and Jennah Carver each singled.
Bouchard, Graham and Rylee Warman rotated on the mound, allowing three hits, nine walks and six strikeouts.
In the next contest, Houlton outdid Hampden, 13-3 behind 15 walks and multiple errors. Graham pitched a one-hitter being reached in the fifth with a single.
Their next game, the Houlton girls fell to Hermon, 15-5. Holmes and Gentle each singled in the game.
Graham and Mikayla Fitzpatrick shared the loss.
Leading up to the championship, Houlton pounded Bangor, 22-2, as Flewelling collected three singles, while Bouchard and Graham each had two base hits. Holmes, Gentle, Anessa Wilde, Carver and Emma Peterson, all singled.
Graham, Bouchard and Flewelling gave up two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
