A time for celebration in Patten

Patten Pioneer Days is a week-long celebration of events that features a combination of old-fashioned talks, children’s events and one of the largest parades in the area. The following is a listing of activities.

Monday Aug. 6
9 a.m. – noon — Patten Pentecostal VBS “Praise” Monday-Friday. Ages 3-14 welcome.
    1 p.m. — Coloring Contest and Sundae Decorating, plus sidewalk chalk drawing at Patten Town Office. Up to age 12 welcome to participate.
1-6 p.m. —Red Cross Blood Drive at Methodist Church. Sponsored by Katahdin Valley Health Center.
4 p.m. — Frog Jumping Contest at ball field. Ages 4-14 welcome to participate. Must bring your own frog. Sponsored by: Craig’s Clam Shop.
4-9 p.m. — Find Your Treasure at Debbie’s Deli & Pizza. “Pirate’s Feast” 5 course meal choices. Children’s menu available. Prizes and surprises.
6 p.m. — Bingo at Patten Rec. (doors open at 5 p.m.) Must be 16 years or older to play.

Tuesday Aug. 7
8 a.m. — Free Heart Saver CPR Certification at Patten Recreation Center. Call 528-2215 to register. Sponsored by Patten Ambulance.
1 p.m. — Bird Show at Patten Rec. Sponsored by Art and Sandy Mann.
3 p.m. — Watermelon Eating/Hula Hoop Contest at Park Bring hula-hoop if you have one. Ages 4 – 16 are welcome to participate.
4-9 p.m. — Car Hop at Craig’s Clam Shop. Entertainment will be provided.
9-11 p.m. — Family Movie Night. Bring your own chairs or blankets. Popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase.

Wednesday Aug. 8
1 p.m. — Teddy Bear Picnic at the park. Children 7 and under are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch, blanket and favorite teddy bear. Sponsored by Nason’s Rustoration and Debbie’s Deli and Pizza.
1-3 p.m. — Mt. Heights H.C.F Open House. Ahoy Matey! Ye be invited to Mt. Heights Health Care Facility’s Open House. Look for the Jolly Roger and embark on an adventure to help us find the pirate treasure.
6 p.m. — Patten Pioneer Days Pageant at Patten Rec. Ages 3-14. Sponsored by Patten Drug and Floral.

Thursday Aug. 9
7 a.m. — Cancer Awareness Walk at Patten Rec. Come join us in a mile walk to show our support to those that have fought or are fighting this battle. No money required.
9 a.m.-4 p.m. — Book Sale at Veterans Memorial Library.
1 p.m .— Children’s Field Day at ball field. Up to age 14 welcome to participate.
4:30 p.m. — Spaghetti Supper at United Methodist Church. Sponsored by United Methodist Men.
5-7 p.m. — Evening at the Museum at Lumberman’s Museum.
5 p.m. — ATV ride and barbecue at Craig’s hangar and then ride begins at 6 p.m. Donations for meal welcome. Sponsored by Patten ATV Club.
6-7:30 p.m. — Zumba Dance Party at basketball court. Everyone welcome! Sponsored by Danielle Cole.

Friday Aug. 10
9 a.m.-noon — Book Sale at Veterans Memorial Library.
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (or while 300 containers last) — Main St. Progressive Lunch. Start at Craig’s Clam Shop to collect your container. Travel around town to collect your pirate clues and lunch. Participating businesses include Craig’s Clam Shop, Eastmill FCU, Dead River, Debbie’s Deli and Pizza, Katahdin Trust Company, Ellis Family Market, Methodist Church, Magic Wand Car Wash, Hangar Pizza, Richardson’s Hardware, Daisy Boutique and Red Moose. Visit all locations and receive a prize and enter a raffle.
1 p.m. — Children’s/Bike Decorating Parade Main Street to Founders Street. Line up at firehouse at 12:45 p.m. Up to age 12 is welcome to participate.
1:30-3 p.m. — Foul Shooting Contest at Patten Drug Co. Grades 2-6 welcome to participate.
2-4 p.m. — Patten Historical Society. Come hear about people who lived in Patten years ago, featuring Amy Curtis, Irene Bradford, Ira Fish, Dorothy Dickinson and the life of doctors long ago.
5-7 p.m. — Barbecue and Silent Auction at Shin Pond Village. Sponsored by Mt. Chase Fire Dept.
6 p.m. — VBS Closing Ceremony at Patten Pentecostal Church.
9 p.m. — Fireworks at Shin Pond Village. Donations always appreciated.
9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Adult Dance at Shin Pond Pub.

Saturday Aug. 11
All day — Plane Rides at the Hangar.
7-10 a.m. — Hangar Pizza Breakfast.
10 a.m. — Main Street Parade. Line up Mill Street at 9:30 a.m. Winners will be announced 5 p.m. at the ball field.
10 a.m. — Play Ground Committee Hot Dog Stand at the park. Hot dogs, chili dogs, sausages, snacks, coffee and drinks will be for sale.
10 a.m. — Flea Market/Craft Fair at park. Set up time starting at 7:30 a.m.
11 a.m. — Fireman Fred Performance at park.
11 a.m. — MacDonald’s Farm Petting Zoo.
11 a.m.-4 p.m. — Bean Hole Bean Dinner at Lumberman’s Museum.
11 a.m. — Cow Patty Bingo at Richardson’s Hardware. $5 a plot. Tickets can be bought at the Hardware Store during the week).
11 a.m.-2 p.m. — Pulled pork and nachos lunch at Dead River Parking Lot. Sponsored by Ark Animal Sanctuary. (100 percent proceeds go to the animals)
Noon-3 p.m. — Children’s Carnival at ball field.
11 a.m. — Foul Shooting Contest/3-on-3 at basketball court. Grades 3-12 welcome to participate.
Noon — volleyball tournament at volleyball court. $20 per team, must include one female.
4:30-6:30 p.m. — Mason’s Steak Dinner at KVHC parking lot.
4:30 p.m. — Remote Control Planes w/Jeff Campbell at the Hangar.
5 p.m. — Pirate Coin (Golden Ticket) Bike Giveaway at ball field.
5 p.m. — 50/50 winner announced at ball field.
4:30 p.m. — Baby-back rib supper at the Hangar. The cost is $12.95.
6 p.m. — Home Run Derby at the ball field.
7 p.m. — Candy Drop at the Hangar. Ages up to 12 welcome to participate.
7:30-11 p.m. — Karaoke w/ Lonnie at Hangar Pizza.
9 p.m.-1a.m. — Adult dance at Patten Rec. with DJ Shawn Rigby. BYOB. Cover Charge is $10.

Sunday Aug. 12
9 a.m. — Community Church Service at park. Everyone welcome.
11 a.m. — Coed Softball Tournament at ball field. The cost is $20 per team and must include three females.
