FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The second annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Scramble held Friday, Aug. 3 at Aroostook Valley Country Club was termed a huge success by organizers.

“A beautiful day, a big crowd and a first class golf course made for the perfect setting for this event. Many former and current players, coaches and officials along with basketball fans took part in the event to help raise funds for the Hall of Fame that will be constructed in new Cross Insurance Center formerly known at the Bangor Auditorium,” said Larry Gardner, event chairman.

Assisting Gardner with the tournament were Peter Webb and Skip Chappelle as well as other committee members.

Following the guest speakers, an auction was held with the first item being auctioned by honorary auctioneer Dewey Dewitt, who got the crowd going in his typical style. Auction items included Red Sox tickets from Hall of Fame pitcher Goose Gossage, Boston Celtics vs. Dallas Mavericks tickets compliments of Mavs’ coach and former UMaine Black Bear player Rick Carlisle, tickets and lodging to UM basketball, hockey and football games and Bangor Waterfront concert tickets to Keith Urban and Def Leppard. The auction raised more than $3,000.

Prizes were awarded after the meals to  the winning low gross team of  Curt Anderson, Marty Bouchard, Mike Cote and Steve Clark, who posted a score of 16 under par. Winning teams received beautiful crystal trophies in addition to other prizes.
Ten teams in all received prizes, in addition to the longest drive contest won by Ryan Guerrette. Two hole-in-one awards were offered, including a new car and $10,000 cash. No one won either prize, but some golfers came close.

The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Committee would like to thank all those who contributed sponsorships, prizes, auction items and their time to make this event such a huge success.
