EAST MILLINOCKET – Elizabeth Anne “Betty” Stanley, 80, wife of Alton “Tashie” Stanley, passed away Aug. 14, 2012, at a Millinocket health care facility. She was born June 5, 1932, in Millinocket, daughter of Bernard “Moonie” and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Michaud) Sullivan.
Betty was always proud to have been Winter Carnival Queen at Schenck High School in 1948, where she graduated in 1950. She loved to play Beano and play cards, and thoroughly enjoyed all the friends she made doing so.
In addition to her husband, Tashie, whom she loved dearly, she is survived by a son, Stephen Stanley and wife, M. Lorraine; and daughter, Selina Van Ess and companion, Richard “Itch” Sirois. Betty was very proud of her grandchildren’s accomplish-ments and for what they have become, Dustin Stanley, Leigh-Anna and husband, Scott Lavoie, Andy Van Ess and companion, Whitney Crone, and Paul Van Ess; great-grandchildren, Kes, Kylie and Camden Lavoie; as well as her “Stanley family” who made her a part of them. She also leaves many, many friends. In addition to her parents, Moonie and Lizzie, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, D. Scott Van Ess. The family thanks the staff at Katahdin Health Care for the wonderful care given to Betty while she was a resident there.
Friends called 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, presiding. Interment was at East Millinocket Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospital.
