The Men’s Twilight League has entered the playoff phase. The team of Pete Lawlor and Tom Ryan finished the regular matches undefeated (all others had at least one loss) and received a first-round bye. They will play Joe McAuliffe/S.P. Walker, advancing with a win over Ralph Powers/Ted Pettengill. Greg Douglas and Billy Boulier got a bye also, and will play Reid Stanley and Ken Delano, who beat the father/son team of Steve and Parker Walker.
In the other two quarterfinal matches, Bill Dwyer/Warren Walker (first-round bye) will play Bill Hollis/Francis Cyr, who advanced with a win over another father/son team of Steve and Drew Edwards; and Greg Gayne/Peter Blood (also received a first-round bye) will square off against Brent Kelly/Tom Daggett, who won a close match with Stu Kelley/Ricky Bates to advance.
In Sunday afternoon couples golf, the play of the day was worst ball scramble, if you can imagine such a thing! Winning with a 64 was the foursome of Terry/Ted Pettengill and Sally/Francis Cyr. Only one stroke back was the team of Valerie/Ralph Powers and Bev Osborn/Greg Gayne; and one more stroke behind was the team of Becky/Stu Kelly and Diana/Ola Tucker. Couples (and singles) meet each Sunday at 3 p.m. … come join in the good times, or at least the fun times!
Nearly 100 golfers with the Upper St John Valley Seniors will play at VaJoWa today, so the course will be tied up until late afternoon.
For those who may have missed it earlier this year, Tom Ryan aced the seventh hole and David Dubois had a nice double eagle on number two … nice shots, guys!
For those planning ahead, we’ll host a red/white/blue scramble during Labor Day weekend. This is a fun tournament, where each team will play six drives of their choice from each of the three different tees. Some interesting strategy certainly enters the picture when selecting which tee box to use for each hole. The entry is only $10 per player with four-person teams. There will be gross and net prizes; plus, prizes for the youngest total age; oldest total age; and prizes for female only teams (mixed teams can play, also).
Since this is over the Labor Day long weekend, you may play on any day at any time and you may play on multiple teams, if you wish! Sign up in the pro shop or just show up and play. Winners will be announced on Monday evening after all play is completed.
Much needed rains have put VaJoWa in terrific playing condition. Come enjoy great rates and good times, while we are still blessed with wonderful weather.
