High school soccer season opens

    The high school soccer season got under way on Monday with several local teams in action.
    In Houlton, the Lady Shires blanked Madawaska, 3-0, behind Alana Pratt’s goals in each half, while Natalie Hill recorded another goal and assist. Katie Condon also picked up an assist in the win.
    Houlton goalie Marina Cameron stopped two of five shots faced for an opening season win.
    For Madawaska, net keeper Alexis Levesque made 10 saves on 25 shots on goal.
    In Madawaska, the Houlton Shiretowners didn’t fare as well, as they suffered a 4-1 setback.
    The Owl’s Ian Lee tallied a hat trick and Travis Thibeault added a single goal. Jake Gendreau picked up two assists and Alex Nadeau a single assist.
    Madawaska goalie Tim Deschenes stopped eight of 12 shots.

    For Houlton, Dan Swallow scored the lone goal, while Kole Buzzeo set back 14 of 20 shots faced on net.
    The Owls improve to 2-0, while the Shires take a season opening loss.
    In Hodgdon, the Hodgdon/GHCA boys and girls each played their season opener against Limstone/MSSM.
    In girls action, the Lady Eagles sprinted by the home team, 6-2. Lacey McQuarrie scored both goals for Hodgdon/GHCA.
    The Hodgdon/GHCA boys were defeated 1-0 when the Eagles’ Tristan Kirk scored with four and a half minutes left in the game.
    Hodgdon/GHCA held a 29-18 shots-on-goal advantage in the game.
