Care & Comfort: Home health at its finest

Care & Comfort, located at 165 Academy St., Presque Isle, and owned by Susan and Leo Giguere, has been providing mental health and home health care for decades, with offices located throughout Maine.
“Our home health care division provides skilled nursing and in-home personal care services, adult and pediatric long-term care and caring companions programs. The mental health division offers individual, family and group therapy, family support services, mental retardation/autism services, home and community support services, child and family behavioral treatment,” said Destini Bates, branch manager.
“After careful research as to what the specific needs of Aroostook County residents are, we have developed new services and expanded current ones to better assist consumers in both divisions,” she said.
As needs increase, so do the services provided.
“As the region’s population has increased, with families separated by miles, our caring companion program has grown rapidly. Our trained staff assist individuals in maintaining their independence safely and with dignity, with such things as bathing, dressing, housekeeping, errands and meal preparation,” said Bates.
Bates said the mental health division is also growing, with the need for such services “dramatically increasing over the past decade for a myriad of reasons.”
“Excellent customer service is our number one priority. It’s what sets us apart from others. A health care consumer should expect and deserves only the best when it comes to their care,” said Bates.
“Our company was created 21 years ago by Susan who, through personal experience in the realm of family caregiving, knew about ‘good care,’ ‘no care’ and ‘who cares.’ As an adult daughter and caretaker for her elderly parents who had a number of health problems, and mother of a daughter with mental health illness, she learned all too quickly the assistance options available or not,” said Bates, noting that was when the Gigueres decided to establish Care & Comfort.
Care and Comfort has over 675 employees statewide, serving individuals and families in 13 Maine counties from Biddeford to the Canadian border. For more information, call 764-3071 or toll-free 877-287-4931 or visit www.CareAndComfort.com.
