The Caribou Vikings made the trip to Ellsworth Saturday for the first regular season meet of the season.

The Caribou girls placed second to Mount Desert Island, thanks to six runners finishing among the top-20 in the event.

Aleta Looker of Ellsworth won the three-mile race in 19:29.39.

Leading the Vikings was Mackenzie Belyea, who was fourth overall in 20:20.88. Robyn Larrabee was seventh in 20:55.62, Nerissa Larrabee 12th in 21:31.73 and Kristin Macek 15th in 22:31.89 for Caribou. Mackenzie Deveau (23:10.97) and Chelsea Bard (23:12.12) were 18th and 19th, respectively.

A total of 69 runners competed.

For the boys, Ellsworth came away with the win over Bangor Christian and 10 other schools. Caribou placed sixth.

Dan Curts of the host Eagles claimed the win in 16:06.85.

Caribou’s Ron Lund placed third in 17:24.17, while Ryan Washington took sixth place in 17:47.3. Brendan Cyr of the Vikes took 14th in 18:34.48 in the event that included 83 competitors.

At Fort Kent last Wednesday, the Class C schools competed on the 2.92 course at Lonesome Pines Ski Trails.

The Washburn girls scored 16 points and won easily over Central Aroostook, which posted 47. Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Washburn, Limestone-MSSM and the host Warriors did not have enough runners to figure in the team scores.

Carsyn Koch was the race winner, completing the course in 23:02. Teammate Carmen Bragg was one minute back in 24:02, while Beavers Emmy Churchill (24:41) and Mackenzie Worcester (24:58) followed.

Limestone-MSSM’s Lucy Wilcox was eighth in the meet in 26:37.

On the boys’ side, Washburn had the only full team and therefore was the team champ. Fort Kent’s Sam Ouellette took individual honors with a time of 19:25, while the Beavers’ Noah Caron was just 13 seconds behind in 19:38.

Parker Thompson (fifth, 23:20). Michael Ericson (seventh, 23:54) and Justin Davis (ninth, 25:26) also cracked the top-10 for Washburn.

The next meet is the Caribou Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8. Teams from throughout Eastern Maine are expected to compete in the event, which gets underway at 1 p.m.
